Title: Mill Lake, March 14th 2010
Post by: whereismyfloat on March 14, 2010, 07:10:36 PM
I bought a new boat yesterday and wanted to give it a whirl. So I took one of the kids down to Mill today and was rewarded handsomely! 3 fish, 2 brood stock and a 14" silver bullet. My youngest son did all the work. Not a bad string for a 6 year old. All fish happily returned to swim another day!

Hey Britguy,

I didn't put 2 and 2 together until just now! Nice to meet you today and perhaps I'll see you out there again. I have two kids and the other one is dying to go after seeing his little brother's pictures. So we might just bump into you on another day. Hope that fly is as good to you.

Cheers,

WIMF

That's likely a max clip giving the fish the grin. On some hatchery fish they clip the Maxillary (the flap of skin just outside the mouth).
According to Brian Chan it is easier on the fish than a fin clip, though I think it makes the fish look quite unattractive.
I've only ever seen a max clip on one side, so just turn the fish the other way for the picture...
Some non-clipped fish get a similar look if they were hooked as a juvenile - usually with a barbed hook and a rough release.

That's not a bad looking fish for a brooder.  Nice job and thanks for the report.
