Does anybody know when there gonna be stocking Green Timbers??? my friend wants to catch a fish and i want to try and get him his first fish before spring break ends. Thanks ;D
-
I'd say the stockings are coming soon. If you look at last years stocking reports it shows Green Timbers being stocked the first week of April
-
you must have bad eyes Vancook. I looked and it says first stocking last year was March 13th ;) the local lakes get stocked during/before spring break every year ;D so if it follows past years it should be getting done this week
these were the exact days last year the stockings happened in our urban lakes
Green Timers - March 13th
Lafarge - March 12th
Como lake - March 12th
Mill lake - March 16th
Rice lake - April 16th (i think this was because it stayed frozen longer last year)
so you can look yourselves here is a direct link to the list from 2009

ARGH...you're right. I need to start scrolling all the way down lol
-
its alright buddy im just picking on ya a bit cause your making it to easy LOL
now lets all wait patiently until Rod tells us the lake has been stocked or not ;) and while your all doing that i will go fishing ;D
-
I'm going to fish a local lake tomorrow stocked or not lol. just need a nice day on some water
-
I hear ya there. I have been at Green Timbers monday/tuesday already and going to Lafarge on sunday
-
Stocked or not, most lakes around here are already producing quite well for a couple of weeks now, so it is definitely worth to get out if the sun is shining.
The hatchery is putting some broodstocks into some of the lakes, stockings of catchable rainbows should start soon after.
Once it gets going, there will be a thread on here that updates people as well as the link provided further up in this thread. Updates will also be available at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fishing-with-Rod/78768862711?ref=mf

Good to know, thanks Rod. Didn't see you at the sportsman show last friday.
My usual urban lake hang out is Rice, closest drive for me and such a pretty setting in the woods. Otherwise I end up at Green Timbers from time to time.
-
you should check out Lafarge then as its closer to you then GT is. It usually gets the most fish when they do stockings

And not to mention the "scenery" can also be a little better... being the collage is right next door... why not fish for both species... :D
-
ha ha ha ha that is so true. i dont know how many strikes i have missed because im "fishing" ;D
-
lol. I've gone to Lafarge a few times..although the bucket brigades tend to annoy me.
I'm usually at GT because a good friend of mine lives right by guildford, so I tend to make stops at the lake before or after I meet up with them lol
-
If i see guys keeping fish in buckets i always take a look inside if im able to because i have found that most of the time the fish are being kept alive >:( if this is the case i either tell them to kill the fish or i dump out the bucket especially if they are over their limit >:( >:( I have done this a few times at Green Timbers in past years and im glad to see people starting to smarten up a bit now. Also glad to see more CO's at the local lakes, saw them there 5or6 times last year ;D

Catchable rainbow trout stockings have not begun in the Lower Mainland but they are still scheduled to start before the end of this month. That being said, here is a story that may drag people out of the house:
http://www.fishingwithrod.com/fishy_news/100315-1.html
Some additional comments from the hatchery:
These are FVRB and we manipulate them to spawn in the fall. So, while most of these are past spawners they have had several months to recover.
In saying that it costs us extra to hold these fish so we are interested in what type of response they might generate from the angling community.
If you have some feedbacks, please feel free to post them here and I will forward them to the hatchery.
Good luck.

According to my work mate, he was out on the weekend walking his dog and saw they were stocking with some brood stock at Greentimbers.
-
Thanks for the info. I'll have to take my 9 yr old son out this weekend.....he's been chomping at the bit to get out again.
I took my son to Lafarge Lake early in the morning (7:30am) a week ago Sunday and nothing was biting. I'd like to take him to the Vedder and get some more use out of his new neoprene waders and wader boots, but probably way too busy to have a young kid around.
-
We went to Lafarge and i went around the lake with the fish finder looking for fish and only sounded about 30 in the entire lake :'( i guess alot of fish get pulled out in the winter and the Otter must have been very hungry LOL
we managed 1 each and missed 1 strike.
The brood stock was put into Green Timbers on wednesday or thursday because i got one on Friday about 6lbs. They could have been putting in more on the weekend though ;D however i didnt think they did stockings on weekends ???
-
I'll be heading to green timbers sometime this week...looks like thursday right now.
my outing to rice was unsuccessful, didn't see any movement in the lake and I happened to go there with snow on the ground...it was cold and wet so we packed it in within 2 hours

I went to rice lake last 3 weeks every Saturday. Me and my friend caught our limits within two/three hours. Didn't see any snow but it was wet.
RB are there very small though.

I was just curious because i had 2 younger kids talking to me and one of them was ;) Next time come say hi, I can suggest a fly that works really well for those fish ;D

i wasnt fly fishing those days, i was just using some single eggs. On friday people to the right of me where talking about broodstocks and you where like those people are crazy for touching those things or something like that, I was the kid closest to them just standing there watching my rod. and i think you where fishing a chrionomid that day too ;D
-
you are talking about Friday last week right ??? I was standing on that little concrete pipe and yes i was fishing a chironie. I looked in the guys box that was fishing next to me and suggested he try a Black Spratley which produced a fish 3 casts later, his first fly caught fish EVER !!! He was so stoked that it made my day ;D
anytime your there and see me feel free to come and say hi. You are actually the other kid waiting to take your casting class with Rick arent you ??? My cousins son is the other kid ;) I got him into the class and saw him casting a bit this past weekend, has all the beginners mistakes but thats cause he needs that class !!! you both need to harass Rick now that he is done with Olympics.
I will probably be out there one night this week after work. either thursday or friday ;D it had better be stocked by then !!!!!!

Friday March 12, I left at about 2:30 (i think thats when you moved over to the other end of the lake). I'm all done my classes with Rick, we did the casting part about 2 weeks after the theory class. I got the hang of the casting part right away i just have to practice alot (Which I have Been). I wont be going thursday or Friday though, Going to the Vedder instead ;D. MIGHT be out tomorrow though
-
Good luck at the lake ;D if your gonna fly fish try these: black/red micro leech, Black doc spratley, black/red ribber chironie about 3-4feet deep. Those "should" give you a pull if there is fish around.

would a Black/Purple Woolly Bugger work??? guy beside me today caught a 7 pounder on that ( stupid fish hit my lure, missed it, turned went for his fly >:( )
-
to be honest some goofy a** flies work but not that consistent. i have seen people use rolled muddlers & mickey finns for example. I know that xmas trees seem to catch fish also at times. My black/red chironie usually always gets a few smacks even when fishing is painfully slow

I was there that day we had some snow last week, I fished from the floating dock. Poured rain and no movement on the lake. super cold so I didn't bother. Rain gear or not I was not willing to sit out there anymore.
I went to Green Timbers today, no action from the lake and then all off a sudden around 4 pm the fish are rolling on the surface all over the lake. I was floating bait, no takers, cast out a spoon and nothing. However, the guy over to my right nails 2 big ugly looking brood stock on his fly rod. by 4:45 all the surface activity stops and the bites seemed to stop as well. Oh well, probably going to be there Thursday. look for me if you're out there
