Title: steelhead tag

Hey there, I was just wondering if I need to buy a steelhead tag if I am a registered indian.  I don't think that I do, just don't want to make a mistake.
Oh ya and I will be freshwater

This is probably my answer, just want to make sure.

If you are an Indian as defined in the Indian Act (Canada) AND a resident of BC, you are not required to obtain any type of fishing licence or stamp to sport fish in BC's non-tidal waters.

are you sure? I spoke to moe about this and unless you are on a "harvest" list all rules apply to you.
the list is different from river to river, and band to band.
make a phone call.

does water body specific regulations still apply?  like limits and methods and such.

Years ago I phoned the DFO when I saw some heinous acts.  The lady said FN do not have to buy a license, however, ALL Freshwater Regulations apply...

If you are talking DFO, I personally witnessed DFO write a "status native" a fine for no licence and a barbed hook.
again you better call MOE and DFO and get the straight goods.....trust me its cheaper.

no need to buy any stamp or licence if status indian.  rules and regulations will apply unless local aggreements or treaties in place for the waters fished.

No lience requirement from the Provincial govt (IE: non-tidal) but there is  licence requirement from the Feds (tidal).

Grab a tag anyway if you can afford it, even though you probably don't need it.  It helps to support the fishery, and adds to the number of registered steelheaders.  Worst case you've spent $25 towards supporting a resource that could use all the help it can get, at about the same cost as one spool of Maxima ultragreen. ;)

Whether the information provided so far is accurate or not, it's your a** on the line go check it out with the powers that be.
