well its a bit early I know ::)but time is of the essence as I need to book holidays for the year
what would you guys and gal's all think would be the best week in october for salmon, spring, chum and coho?????Thanks in advance, now I must stock up on purple jig's ::)
-
ok,I was thinking the week of october 16th -24th or should I go with the last week???
-
16-24th should be pretty good.
from my past experiences chum more likely go for greenish jigs, coho purple/pink jigs, and spring dark red w/ a bit orange.
but dont quote on me tho, i might be wrong.
cheers ;D

CHUM= Purple

I have had chum hit every jig color I have ever fished for coho with: purple, pink, blue, yellow, red, black, tinsel, orange, green, white, and a variety of combinations there of!
Chum in my books are not selective at all and usually pretty aggressive.
PS - chum and white springs turn very fast...if you are looking at either one for food as opposed to sport, you may want to consider a week earlier. Coho for what ever reason seem to maintain their quality much longer and are better table fair anyhow in which case the original dates you mentioned are OK.

I've found that right after Thanksgiving long weekend is usually peak time for me.
-
Your dates sound great - a week or two earlier or later would also be great. If you are fishing the Lowe Mainland / Fraser Valley there will be great fishing somewhere as there are a number of flows to hit even if the water is running high.

Middle of October is definitely a good time.
For some reason the chums were particularly aggressive on purple jigs this year and I also found chartreuse wool could be very effective for them too. (These were doing so well for me I gave up experimenting with anything else). Jigs were great but simply tying some wool to a hook with an egg loop could be just as effective some days.

well the votes are in the week after thanksgiving is booked off,I know its a long ways off but a
guy needs fishing dates booked so you have something to look forward too after working ::)

I would be more inclined to go with the last week of Oct. I have been using a week of my annual vacation to target those guys for the last 12 years. For the last three years they seem to have shifted their migration time to later in the month. As for flies they seem to hit purple and pink combinations more aggressively.
