hi there , im just wondering if someone could fill me in on roe..ive never fished with it before and i dont no how to tie roe sacs or can u buy they pre done .?
thanks in advance
;D

You can buy pre-tied roe bags at Sea Run.
-
You can slip roe chunks under a bait loop in your hook as well. I just tie the leader to the hook like this, then slip the roe chunks under the loop.

need instructions? http://www.steelheaduniversity.com/roe.html
You can also hang roe bags by hooking thru the knot in the roe sac.

Hatch Matchers as well.

Army & Navy sell cured roe.
easy to tie
-
thanks for all the help but would army and navy show me how to tie the roe sacks ??and whats easyer to do for first time roe fishing chuncks or sacks ..thanks again
-
I would go with sacks. Less messy, your hands stay warmer and you do not go threw nearly as much roe because the sacks last way longer on the hook. Also if you do not know how to tie a bait loop very well then sacks is the way to go as there is no bait loop required.

thanks and do you no if army and navy sells pre tied sacks .?

thanks rod il make sure to call them after school tomorrow ;D

Forget the pre tied sacs.
Buy a small tub of eggs and some netting and Spiderthread.
You will have egg sacs for the whole season and next.
Once you get the hang of tying them up you can whip up 10 of them in about 5 minutes.

if i get all the materials i need would u be able to explane to me how to tie them up propely?

hi Costas, i know the fishing department of the Army and Navy in New Westminister are well experienced fishermen and i found it quite comfortable to ask them questions. if they arent busy, they even walk down the aisles and share the knowledge with you.
cheers

Costas, buddy when I want to know something I hit the internet, much like you are doing. However you are only going to glean so much from people on forums, check out you tube or google to find out the answers. Want to know about roe bags, holding water for steelhead, jigs, whatever it might be there are so many articles, videos, blogs, ect that you can tap into. You will get much more in depth info if you know where to look. good luck
-
If you still cant figure it out on the videos and want to learn how and are willing to come out to Maple Ridge i would gladly show you how its done.

If the mesh material is on a continuous roll, cut off a square piece about 3" x 3".
Put 3 or 4 or 5 water-hardened eggs in the middle.
Pull up the corners and twist them slightly into a cone.
Use about 10 wraps of the Spiderthread tight against the eggs and snap it off on the last wrap.
I sometimes throw a jensen egg in the mix for a little scent.
Use different numbers of eggs and try different colours of mesh - white, pink, red.
They last a really long time so you won't need too many of them - 10 or so for the day.
If you get a strike but are not sure, you can usually tell if one or more of the eggs have been crushed.
Edit: I push the hook through the egg sack just under the knot then slip the whole thing under the bait loop.

Ok heres a neat tip...go to Michaels craft store and grab a role of the stuff they use to make wedding veils, if I remember I think it was 8 bucks you get 100yds of the stuff so it will last quite awhile, just cut into 3"x3" squares and bobs your uncle...tight lines... ;D
-
Thank you guys for the knowledge of how to do this.

thats a good tip Bassonator. I personally went into a fabric store and got 3metres of the stuff and think it was even cheaper and they even had different colours cause i rather use coloured netting like pink or orange
-
yes so i just buy water hardend eggs? and the spider thread and the fabric?
-
Yup eggs fabric and thread and your good to go.
-
yeah ray and the boys at army and navy are the best... taking jensen eggs and the mesh and tying it right in front of you... service cant be beat, best in langley.... gotta say thanks to ray for the curing tips and tricks... when i got ten pounds of fresh roe and i didnt know what to do, in the end it turned out real nice...
