I have some stupid question :-[ :
What do fish do at night?
Will fish bite at night?
What kind of fish you caught at night?
How do you fish at night(if allowed)?
-
I have lake fished at night time. especially an open night with good moonlight. fishing can be very good when large trout cruise shallows hunting for bugs ;D
-
This year I beach fly-fished at night 5 mins from my dorm.
It was insane fishing, with all the lights along the side of the ocean, huge schools of bullet chrome pinks would be 15 feet or less from the edge.
They were slamming 2-3 " long bright Lime Green or Hot Pink flies.
Probably one of the coolest new things I did this year.
Wasn't sure of it at first but the 2 times I did it, I doubled my fish total from during the day in the same amount of time.
Cool to watch 4 or 5 fish peel off and chase and fight over your fly and then slam it.
Gotta watch out for those damn seals though that will come right up on the rocks after your fish. :o
-
HA HA HA guess you need to take along a bat also when your beach fishing ED ;D I have had very close calls on the Squamish with the seals, had one almost run me down more than once >:( he actually went between my legs once even thought i did sort of try and dance/jump out of the way :o
-
I had 2 takes fish off my line this year.
I had one body slam my legs and almost take me out in waist deep water AND...
I had one literally grab a fish out of my hand and devour it right in front of me so close I could see the blood and chuncks of meat getting ripped off.
Definatly a new experience anyways.
-
SH** kid, you should be very glad you have all your digits still :o
-
Bass fishing with dark topwaters/subsurface lures can be great-lotsa mozzies out @ times though.
Close to shore where the lights fall on the water too.
-
Streamer fishing at night for rainbows and brown trout is an extremely effective method of fishing on the Bow River. Not only does it catch lots of fish, but the hits are absolutely savage.
I have also done well fishing for other species such as sturgeon and burbot fishing at night.

What school to you go to?
Fish seem almost as adept at finding flies/lures at night, but are less spooky. I night fished some interior lakes from shore at night and had fun. Line management was a paint though. Tom Thumb waked across the surface on a moonlit night during a sedge hatch is devastating. Also, sturgeon fishing is fun at night, because you can only hear and feel what's going on...

Matt I go to Vancouver Island University.
-
I have been out night fishing for sturgeon.

You can lake fish at night but your chances of hooking a bat are alot better, bats will pick your fly off the water on every pass.
A couple years ago I was fishing below the crossing just after dark. I was casting spoons, and had been there for a good hour with no luck. I was about to pack it in once it got to dark, but just as I casted a car in the parking lot behind me turned on its head lights and pulled out, just enough light to give my spinner a flash of light and boom fish on, so I stayed a little longer. 10 minutes later another car pulls out of the parking lot and there head lights gave my spinner another flash of light, and another fish on. I could not see any longer so packed it in. I would like to give this another go sometime, maybe with a flashlight? 8)

Hmmmmm...
New lure? Attack an LED light to a spoon and waterproof it? ;D

Wouldn't even need to waterproof it as those LEDs run off low voltage (ie 1.5V) IIRC.

I've sturgeon fished at night...have to find a place to tuck in close to shore to avoid drift nets and other objects floating down river at night...but it is extremely effective.

Brad's lighted wigglers are deadly for steelhead and salmon. My buddies and I have boated more than 80 steelhead this year while night fishing. Make sure you check your local regulations regarding the legality of fishing at night. We tape little glow sticks to the tips of our rods to make the takedowns easier to spot. There's nothing like doing a float in the drift boat by the moonlight, cork popping in the rod holders, glow sticks violently dipping to the water, and fresh steelies shattering the ghostly quiet as they tailwalk from one side of the river to the other.......
Also, glow sticks attached just above a spoon or spinner work very well. I've also tied up a few glow stick "flies" for swinging at night.
Here's the results of a few "Friday Night Fights!":

Accordinglto my flyfishing ghillie, night fishing on interior lakes can be productive on clear mooonlit nights using leechy patterns. We've tried it a few times with some success however the hardest part is leaving the warmth of your cabin and climbing back into your tube on a chilly night.
On another note, back in my younger years when I shorefished in Ontario for walleye with Mr. Twister jigs, I wouldn't start fishing until after sunset. Very productive and fun fishery. In my mind's eye, I can see the gleaming of the marble eyes in the lights as the fish is slid into shore.

Page 9 of the Freshwater Regulations regarding using lights - "It is unlawful to: Use a light in any manner to attract fish, unless the light is submerged and attached to the fishing line within 1 m of the hook." Also illegal to fish the Chilliwack/Vedder after dark for salmon for part of the year. http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/rec/fresh-douce/region2-eng.htm
Just what I was thinking when reading through this stuff . And I thought it was not just the Chilliwack that night fishing is banned on either .
