Anyone know what shape the rivers in? Am heading up that way on Saturday. If we get no rain it will be fine. I will give an update later in the week for you.
1 Hatchery Marked Steelhead year round?
I thought the river opened on boxing day.
I caught my first steelhead of the season on the Capilano river!
Wahoo!
You'll have better odds fishing the vedder than the cap for steelhead, by allot.
No keep any steelhead out of cap and yes you need a tag.
any reports of the lastest conditionsThey are good and rumours now flying around. ;D ;D ;D
They are good and rumours now flying around. ;D ;D ;DI am hearing a few got lucky today(2 for sure), got to go out and pick up another wading jacket and then I will be ready to brave the elements :)
They are good and rumours now flying around. ;D ;D ;Dthanks Chris gotta love those rumors ;D
Anybody wanna take this newb out when I come home on Thursday lol ;DHead to the Limit's Hole. ;D
I want to mooch other people's spots and not need to scout my own haha :)
Head to the Limit's Hole. ;D
Any news tonight?? ;D ???Still cool out should be OK in the morning if it does not rain too hard. Is 1 right now and we had some freezing rain today, 2 to 4 inches of snowon the ground.
Heads up~ Guys!!! :o
My car got break in on KWB(Parking lot right next to KWR)today in between 1:30-2:00PM, lost $100 worth tackles and of course around $300 driver seat window replacement. >:(
Curse to the Thives!!! >:(
What is with some of you guys? Virtually every break in I read about in these forums is a result of people leaving things in their vehicle in plain view for the thieves to steal. The funny thing is that some of you guys who get broken into complain about it on a public forum like this one....and admit that you left things your valuables in plain view.....showing everyone here that you're not bright enough to figure out why.
I've been fishing the Chilliwack/Vedder and Chehalis for almost 25 years now. 19 of those years with my own vehicle. At over 50 trips a year on average....that is over 1000 fishing trips.....and yet I've never been broken into once. I park at all the same spots as everyone else...but never been broken into. The answer to why my vehicle has never been broken into??? When someone walks by my vehicle and looks in.....they see absolutely nothing but the 'club' attached to my steering wheel. No fishing tackle, no rods, no golf clubs....or anything. If there is nothing in view...the chance of being broke into is almost nil.
Sorry to rant, but these stories about vehicle break-ins are getting a bit much.
My strategy of keeping ridiculous ammounts of garbage in my vehicle seems to keep the thieves away from my vehicle. Never in my life have I had my vehicle broken. I've parked in some real sketchy places too.It seems we use the same tactic. my car is filthy inside...and never washed lol.
I can't wait to get out there and try my luck with the two-hander this year. ;D
hey chris, thanks for the report! i know it came up then down later today but how's the colour? might take a shot at it tomorrow. The lower was fine when I checked it at noon.
probably fish the lower.
Got out for the first steelhead trip today. Condition were excellent. I will post a more detailed report of the outing under fishing reports later this evening. ;D

Hey Chris - guy at Fred's said to go with a small yarn presentation for the Steelies. Checked the info board, and 4 were caught today - all does!
Best 'o luck m8y.
Sorry for the delay as a computer malfunction saw me lose part of my report and then the Leafs lost therefore I was too depressed for a while to retype it. ???
I'm waiting. ;D :P
Chucked out Roe, Jensen Eggs, some spinners...... NOOOOOO luck at all.
Got to keep trying as you never know when the float is going to go down with our first steelhead of the season. That is what keeps us going back time after time isn't it? A chap I know caught his first ever yesterday. :o ;D
Tomorrow will be my turn, I hope. ;D
too bad about that little dog that i saw on the shore dead eh chris?
Actually I take that back. Hope it snows. You are getting your wish today here in Chilliwack, snow on the ground with snow falling. A steelhead looking day as snow, cold weather and steelhead fishing go hand in hand.
too bad about that little dog that i saw on the shore dead eh chris? brought back a lot of memories of me losing my pal to cancer at the beginning of nov. paused there for a moment of reflection.
what does the water look like ?? thinking of heading out in the morningNot sure as we have so much snow on the ground I am snowed in. ;D
How much snow is on the ground? I was hoping to head out there on new years day3 or 4 inches.
water was perfect again today. fished from vedder crossing all the way to train bridge! ugh! did not hear or see any fish taken. it was raining right at the end of the day but should be okay for a couple more days.Glad I stayed in today then as one does not want to get fished out before the main run comes in. ;D
Happy New Year Chris! Is there any site you can find about the Road Condition in chilliwack? specially going through the hatchery? Thanks ;)Not that I know of. You can check Drive BC traffic cameras. There is one by the Evans overpass over Highway 1. Roads will be fine in the Valley today. It is near the freezing mark at 10 AM.
If they are a fish of a thousand casts I should have gotten 2 by now :P
coloured up pretty good at dark and its pissing rain right now...i would say stay home or go somewhere else
with the way the water looks is it worth going up there tomrrow or sunday ???
I will check later today, no rain at this time.
Conditions? Thinking of heading out tomorrow morning, Thanks. The last I heard it was OK but it will dpend of course if we get rain overnight, was fairly mild today.
lower was going out this morning under 12'' of visYes it did not look very good when I drove over the Freeway Bridge this morning on the way to Abbotsford. I guess the heavy rain we are having contributed to it.
Went out for my first trip of the year and brought my bro who's visiting from California. Had I known that he'd hook and land a wild steelie after his fourth cast, I would have left him at home! :D ;). No steel yet for me though. Conditions were great above the slides and and visibility was only about 2ft below.
im just wondering why do alot of people chose to use cp setups for steelhead?
thanks costas
Whats the chances of catching a steelhead on the north arm of the Fraser, on the Burnaby side were north arm park is??
whats kind of setup will produce at this location, will be better fishing in the afternoon around lunch?
Kinda new to fishing , and wondering if its worth it going there in the afternoons or should i go mornings?
Chris, you are referring to the lower below the slides I take it?Yes thats correct, sorry I should have said that, heard of one fish taken and another angler said he saw one surface so the odd one is around, will give it a good shot tomorrow as I am still looking to beach my first one of the season but I am not the only one in that camp. :o
i think i saw you two. were you using CP set ups?
my uncle and i were fishing on vedder too yesterday.
Hey vic, not to derail the thread but were you the guys that let us have your pool in the upper? If so, thanks!!
Strong NE wind blowing tonight so dress warmly if you are fishing tomorrow.
hella windy from mid to lower today, just howlingThats for sure, I took a look, made a couple dozen casts and went to badmintion instead of battling the wind. Water condition excellent by the nway. Darn wind still blowing tonight.
No wind on the upper section of the river. Saw one hatch taken.Well that's because the upper just happens to be surrounded by mountains , it usually is far less windy then the lower for that reason .
Was out today fishing mid river. First thing this morning it was a bit colored up, by noon it was better, maybe 3ft vis. With this rain, it probably won't last long. Warm temperatures also mean snow melt from the hills. The Lower was not that great first thing either but improved to very good conditions later in the afternoon. I heard a chunk of clay fell in overnight. Unfortunately it started raining very hard a dark. More detailed report under fishing report later.
Took 2 weeks off to go fishing but it looks like it might not be fishable tomorrow.I hate to say for sure as one never knows what will happen over night but it is raining hard now and with clay falling in maybe one should save your brownie points for another day. I guess one could take a chance on the Upper. :-\
You guys think it will be okay tomorrow???
Raining in Langley now. Doesn't look to good for a few days. The river will get a bit of a rest. Good luck to those who do venture out.Rain here on the Vedder now too.
just checked the water level at vedder crossing, 2.7m :( and the weather report for chilliwack sounds about as ugly :( :(Yes it has rained very hard all day and is mild too. Rain and snow melt means floods. ::)
guess it's going to be awhile before it comes inshape. time to do more projects around the house.
Took a drive to the top end this morning, doesn't look good for the next few days unless it gets cold. At least the rain has stopped and the sun is making an appearance, very few anglers out.Sure it's nice today but the rain's due to resume tomorrow and then for the rest of the week , so it's not going to shape up any time soon .
Is Chilliwack raining hard now? Will be nice to get a report in morning to see if worthwhile for a try later the day.Did not rain very much overnight but it looks like it coming now when I look to the West.
Called Freds Tackle in the morning. They said lower about 6 inches visibility, and only fishable section is Borden Creek and up. Not much room for all the fishermen to spread out. I guess if Alison and up is fishable then it will be much better. Guess there are more slides between Alison and Ranger on the back side. Can any body verify that?Borden on the far side itself puts out a lot of colour with rain like this.

I guess if Alison and up is fishable then it will be much better. Guess there are more slides between Alison and Ranger on the back side. Can any body verify that?I believe there is just the Ranger Slide but I seldom fish in that area so not certain. I took a drive up that way for you today and conditions were very good, that is above the slide, that is in the Allison Pool area. Drove up to the Limits Hole and counted 20 vehicles from the Allison up and I got a report of one hatchery taken. Another angler said he lost one.
Give it a rest, we need rain.... The river level is perfect and the color is beautiful. Go fish somewhere else, the Sumas is a nice brown color...
agreed the level is perfect. vis is great.
Heading out for first light tomorrow morning. Probably going to stick to the upper to avoid other anglers...I'll have to take a peek at the canal and see if I want to throw a couple casts there first thing before moving up.I might finally get out again as spending too much time on the computer working on environmental issues and watching the Olympics.
Anyone else hitting the river tomorrow?
was out this morning and afternoon around the canal. left around noon as it was raining. water is very low.Im off all week and been wanting to get out there...was hoping to camp on the river to save on the drive but unfavorable weather forecast has me hesitatiing. Been thinking of making a short drive to the capilano but I've heard it has a very low steelhead return.
I saw something rarer then a steelhead on the river today... Chris Gadsden.i shut my rod in my garage door then got a bait casting setup because i wouldn't shut my mouth about it ;D
too bad about the rod, Iv shut the door on my rod a couple times.... But never has my rod fallen out of the back of my truck ;)
Record for the year now a dismal 2 for 14. :o
thanks for the update chris. hoping to get out and annoy a few fish tommorow. going to be a little chilly in the valley though. We had a heavy shower tonight and more wind.
Conditions were very good on my 3 hour trip today to the lower part of the Vedder. Saw one hatchery taken and for the second trip in a row I saw a steelhead surface.
The trip was not a total loss as I found a full tin of beer. ;D ;D ;D
Would it be safe to keep the beer that long, they do have an expirery date. ;D ;D ;DUse it as malt vinegar.
So how long does spring snow melt typically take to blow over?
So how's the Chehalis?
Although quite high the water was perfect on Sunday .Excellent!
Caught and released a 17lb. hatch buck on the lower ;D.
Last chance this week for drifters .
Just wondering if it's still busy on the weekends or has it died down? I usually only fish the fri or mon or mid week when I can. And water conditions?Condition were good this am. I saw 3 fly fishers and one chap bar fishing. :o
Oh wonderful, if that was May 1st, then another one of those fisherman who cannot be bothered to read the fishing regulations.Yes we should all check the regulations before we fish any body of water. This chap and his wife were very elderly people (over 80) so I gave him the benefit of the doubt or I would have reported him. He packed up as soon as I told him the river was closed below the Vedder Bridge except for fly fishing on May 1.
you gut chuckers sure do like patting your own backs eh ::) I was 1 for 1 on gear and so far still a giant goose egg on the fly. Hitting the water in the a.m. to remedy that though ;D
I was out there today and even though there was no fish the water was really nice. clarity was anywhere between 2 and 4 feet depending on what run you were in it seemed ???
