Title: Leftover cured roe
Post by: Matt on November 02, 2009, 07:53:04 PM
After a day's fishing, do you put it back in the freezer with the rest of the supply or dump it?  Lets assume its in a ziploc bag brimming with borax for 12hrs out of the fridge.

I just leave it in the ziploc and back into the fridge for next time. Do not add it back into the fresher stuff, but remember to take more new stuff on the next trip of course  ;D

Hell sometimes i stick my bait box into a big ziploc into the fridge so i dont have to dump it out and then refill it LOL

I left roe out of the fridge, in a garage for nearly a month in borax in a sealed bag and was still catching fish on it.  Helps if its slightly cooler out though...

I fish at night for sturgeon.  No crowds, kind of cool hearing giant splashes in the dark.  Bring headlamps and glowsticks though, Canadian tire sells cheap, good glowsticks in red or blue as not to kill night vision.  That stink bait might work as well, who knows.  At night, I usually don't turn on the headlamp and watch the rod... to tedious.  I point the rod straight out at the bait and hold the line in my hand.  Feeling the delicate bite of what could be a 100lbs + fish is pretty cool.

My favorite sturgeon bait is old freezer burned steelhead chunks.  With regards to roe, when it's cool, I reseal the bag and toss it back into the freezer.
