Area 29 Fraser River Chum:

A chum fishery for Area E took place on October 27 this year.  In order to
ensure management objectives on Interior Fraser steelhead stocks of concern are
achieved, no further Area E Gillnet fisheries in Area 29 are scheduled.

Amazing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the first time they have shut down the chum fishery on the Fraser because of concern over the Thompson River Steelhead. Nice to see something good for a change.

Should not have happened in the first place. They know better but I guess they caved in to pressure.

OK-You're wrong-it's been shut down a number of times for both Steelhead and Thompson Coho.

Not that it'll make any difference-both those stocks are for all intents and purposes finished.

I'd be interested to know which years that happened. I've watched this for years and have never seen them close the chum fishery because of Thompson River Steelhead. The reason being because steelhead is a provincial issue giving DFO all the reason to careless what happens to them.

So much for that ! First Nations has an opening today at 0600, from the Port Mann Bridge down.
