Spoke to creel guy at the norrish today, who showed me a dfo notice (no fn#) which stated that you are allowed to keep 4 chums in that system as of Oct 15. I couldn't find any notices online. Anyone with any insight?

There's no retention of chum salmon in Norrish/Suicide Creek. The daily quota of chum salmon is two fish in Nicomen Slough, four fish in the Fraser River.

What confused me was that I actually saw the notice and read it, yet couldn't find any mention on-line in. This is not a troll. When speaking to the creel surveyor, he mentioned that he was really not allowed to show anyone the notice; it was for creel eyes only. I mentioned that that there was no FN#. Again, for creel eyes only.

Rodney, His notice stated 4 chum in the norrish. The reason I chatted him up was because I observed someone retaining, in my opinion, an old boot chum.

Saw the same thing today. Probably over heard your conversation with the creel surveyor too. I was still skeptical of chum retention but word was travelling fast and I'm sure a few people killed fish today because of what that guy said.

I've forwarded the information to the person who is in charge of these regulations, will update in a couple of days when I receive an answer.

Here's the information received in the email this morning to go with what I have posted last night.
The regulations are:
Nicomen: 4 hatchery mark coho per day (only 2 over 35cm) and 2 chum per day (keeping in mind the 4 salmon per day regulation)
Norrish: 4 hatchery mark coho per day (only 2 over 35cm)
Always check the DFO website or call the local DFO office for more information prior to fishing and particularly when there is different information circulating. Please note that all Fishery Notices that are in effect do have a FN number associated with them.

Further to my last email the creel surveyor was very clear to the fisherman that he did not have a Fishery Notice and he wasn't about to tell him the regulations. He advised the angler to check the DFO website and/or call us. He kept referring to a piece of paper when asked questions, this was our study design, not a Fishery Notice.

Sorry, my mistake. Daily quota of chum salmon in non-tidal Fraser is 2, in tidal Fraser is 4.

Thanks DionJL for validating and confirming my conversation with the creel surveyor. As yet no info in the notices to corroborate this. Rodney's email reply from dfo also states zero retention for the norrish chums. I find that so frustrating that dfo's left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing. No wonder no one responds when violations reported. I am personally not interested in retaining these fish in the norrish or the nic but I am just looking for consistency. We in the fishing communitiy rely on information put out in these notices. ???

I'm surprised that the creel surveyor would say anything about the regs. The one on the Vedder said that she was not allowed to advise any anglers of the rules and regulations and that she was only there to tally fish catches.

As I mentioned in the C&P email in the previous post, it was most likely miscommunication.

Creel surveyors are contracted individuals who are only required to do the tasks that stratocaster has mentioned. The individuals who are fully aware of the regulations are DFO resource managers and enforcement officers. In the future, before assuming that it is a fishery notice, look for the FN number for confirmation.
