Post by: cutthroat22 on October 16, 2009, 03:32:16 PM

Hopefully she goes down a bit.

True enough I had my best day there one November when it was blown and absolutely pouring rain chucking spoons into a back eddie that didn't exist with lower water.

I've been waiting for this since June!  And I too have had some of my best days on that flow in the white water blown out conditions.  The fish will hold/travel in the areas with least current.  It greatly reduces the lanes.

Just a warning to be extra careful.  She's not to be taken lightly in conditions like this.  If you go in, you're not coming out right now.

Seymour is high and dirty (maybe 1' vis) as of 6pm Friday night and a slide has come down into Pool 88 carrying about 5-10 trees with it.  I think the slide is recent, but its hard to tell as its my first trip there since spring.  Fortunately, the nicest part of the pool for coho is still unobstructed.

We just saw a guy scaling back across a log jam from an island at one of the pools. Crazy.

I was fishing the lower end and a lot big springs jumping and moving upriver with the seals right on there tails. Managed a couple springs. One about 12lb doe and another over twenty. Lost the big one.I thought for sure I had him stopped from rippin down river as he was coming back up and then he jumped a couple feet out of the water and snapped my 20 lb maine line with one aggressive head shake! What a rush!

Tried the upper this morning, and there were no fish moving through. Big disappointment. I was expecting it to be substantially better. Are the fish getting throught the wier at the bottom? I suppose if you are hooking springs, they must be. Very surprised that nothing is making it up yet.

Do you think I'm still early?

Thanks for the report. If the fish can't get past the weirs in this high water they'll never will.

I was there from Dawn till 9am.  Landed 2 very chrome jack springs.  Did not see any major schools of coho moving through however.  Water was perfect, high but clear....nice morning.

Legs are hurting after the trek down and up the cliffs, haven't done that since summer.

I was also on the Cap this morning. Next to no Coho moving through and the shopping cart weirs are not an issue nor will they be with these flows. The ladders at the hatchery were nearly empty....

The caps used to be dynamite at high water. Like everywhere else, its fishing is nothing like the glory days of old. Have they cut stocking substantially or just blame the environment or ocean?  ???

I was at the hatchery today as well but my experience was much different  ???. In the ladder I saw about 50 coho(all colored), 8 to 10 springs(including jacks) and at least 2 beautiful steelhead in their spawning colors. Nice to see all that water flowing  :o. On another note had to call DFO about an individual who kept a chum in a river where there is no retention.  >:( READ YOUR REGS!!!!
Tight lines

Went back this morn hoping for some more spring jacks but the water was much higher and I didn't hook a single fish.  Saw a few chum and springs and the odd small old coho but I did not see the schools of coho moving up river like in previous years :-\

FYI the gate down to the cable pool is supposed to be open @ 8am, however, the gatekeeper opened it at 7am sharp both days I was there.

Went after work today till dark. Nothing doing - saw a couple of Chum and a few Coho. Didn't look like there were many fish moving through. Will give the morning a try one day this week.
