Title: coho trip
Post by: silverslab on September 04, 2009, 11:08:14 AM
Hey Guys, me and the boys are planning a little weekend trip to the vedder this year and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on when would be the best time to go, we were thinking of going either 1 weekend or the 3 weekend in Oct just wondered what other people might advise on which of the two dates they think would be better.  We did this last year but with the clay bank problems and the clarity issues it was hard to get a good read.

Thanks in advance for any advise

Coho should be good throughout the dates you mentioned.
If I had to choose, I'd say the 3rd weekend.
If the Vedder isn't producing, try your luck on the northern tribs.

As Mr. P has mentioned, anytime in October is usually pretty good on the Vedder River. The coho run usually peaks in the first two weeks of October but still produces well after that if water condition favours anglers. A couple of things to consider, the first weekend of October can be very productive but it can also be quite congested due to the long weekend. It would be difficult to find a reasonably uncrowded spot. The third weekend will require more scouting for fish, but there would usually be more unfished spots available as many anglers begin to focus on other systems in the Fraser Valley. In a couple of weeks from now, we will start another Vedder fall salmon thread with in-season water condition updates so keep an eye on that to follow how the river is doing.

I too would also pick the first week.

I would like to hear what other people have to say.

Coho fishing is probably the most coveted of all, so nobody going to give up much information.

For over a year, I pestered a guy at work who does well for Coho about where he normally fishes.
He still didn't tell me but I saw his truck parked at a certain spot last year.

Silver slab is not asking for specific spots or anything, just which time of the fall is the best. I don't think his question is prying anything from anyone. Just my opinion though.

I had a choice of weeks for when my dad is going to come down and target coho with me, I chose the third week of October.

This should be an awsome coho year I find when the pinks are heavy in the upper river thats when youll start hitrting the cohos the pinks are thick all the way to the vedder bridge now so it shouldnt be long.seems like its going to be a wet fall so try to plan your trip when the river is not blown out,
