How long can they survive out of the water? I've heard they can be out of the water much longer than most fish. I'm thinking for photos and such.
I always feel kind of panicked to get them back in the water where they belong.
TIA

I have heard that they can stay out of water for a few hours, that is what some guy told me at Hatzic Flats. But he may be wrong, someone else on the forum should know for sure.

They can, but they have to be covered by wet burlap or something similar. Apparently they can survive buried in mad for a long time. Couple of years back I read about DFO confiscated sturgeon from poacher fridge at his home. They released it alive to Fraser :)

I've had them live out of water for 4 hrs--- many yrs ago when it was legal to catch them--- now I know how cruel that was & recommend returning them as quickly as you can after the grip & grin-- Tight lines/sharp hooks
