hellow im new to the river last year i was just wondering if any pinks make their way up the stave. if so what is the best time to fish them. The info at ruskin dam parking lot says it gets chinook,chum,coho,sockeye but no info on pinks. I would love to hit a few on my fly rod this year. thanx

I have caught a couple pinks on the Stave...but they are so few and far between on the Stave that they really are not worth targeting direclty.

In 2003 they had a decent return ( cant remember exactly but maybe their was even an opening for them ) ever since 2003 their has been a drastic decrease in their returns. In 2007 I dont even remember hearing anyone catching any. I dont think they are putting pinks into the Stave anymore either. I think they jut release coho, chum, and chinooks. Rodney might know better than I do.

I fished there a little bit in 2007 as well and didn't see any caught. You can start to see chum showing up late september/ early october though.

I fish two rivers exclusively, the Stave and the Thompson. To have consistent success on any river take time and study. With luck you can have a good day or two and maybe a good season, but to get your fish day in day out year after year takes study. I disagree with the other posters; if you put in the time you can find good pink fishing on the Stave. The last pink year my wife clocked a 30 pink afternoon on the Stave while I was sorting chum for the smoker. The Stave is a rewarding fishery for those willing to put in the time. That river has given me chum until my ares could not take anymore, two Tyee (35 & 36 lb), countless pinks, coho to 20lb, and summer rainbow to four pounds, all on the fly. All my salmon patterns that are published in the "Compendium of Canadian Fly Pattens," we developed on the Stave. ENOUGH SAID!

I am like you newsman, I too fish the stave and all my coho patterns are what I have used there. I get more fish from that one river then all the other rivers that I fish put together.

Thanks for all the replys and info. last year in october i got my first salmon on the fly in the stave and i cant wait to get a few more.
