Title: Bow Anchor system / electric winch
Post by: goodangler on August 02, 2009, 08:41:29 AM
I am looking at putting an anchor system with a Windlass on my Thunderjet. Does anybody have any experience with this type of anchor system?

I have the same unit on my boat.  Works great.
But, it does not come up perfect every time. You have to go up front and spin the anchor so it will pull up over the roller, not everytime  but enough so it is a pain.  As well, the braid between the chain and the rope has to be redone often as it gets chewed up at the transition coming through the winch teeth.
Thomas at tnt put mine on, expensive, but if you do enough drops in a day it is defineately worth the money.  Just watch the braid or you end up with no anchor and chain as the braid wears out.
Any have a new way to braid between the rope and the chain and willing to share would be great.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply Roeman. I was talking to Thomas about it and you are right it is expensive. How often would you say you have to replace the rope on your system?

Depending on how often you are raising lowering, amount of use etc., I found the rope getting frayed way too fast so I put an extra 25ft of chain on.... now I replace the rope every second season as most places I fish, I am not fishing past the 50ft of chain!

Thanks Leaseman, that's a good tip.
