Crab larvae look like blobs but there are some patterns. I will take a shot of one impresionistic pattern I was shown and post it sometime tomorrow.

they are very different.i would use that one you got for permit.that fly is way to heavy for these parts, you will lost it on your first cast. there are some shops that have them but they are a rare breed.most guys are fairly secretive about their crabs.

That is a good thing! :o
Crab larvae look like these:

They're roughly the size of the finger nail.
Check out these commonly used coast fishing flies in Denmark (click on the links in the right column to see different ones):

They may work.

Here's what dungeness crab larvae look like.

And yes the coho eat alot of them.
After being eaten the stomach acids in the fish make the larvae turn colour. Last week I recovered some larvae from a fishes belly that was pure white, but you could still make out the little black eyes and tiny legs.
The ones Ive seen are very small and I have been tying them on size 12 hooks.

hey Lucky how do you fish them?

All those flys are weighted and I fish them on floating line or sink tip depending on the tides. Seven foot leader, let the fly sink then do a really slow retrieve.
