we managed a fish or two on the bar gear this morning.......nobody around. ???......
green top and a 2lb piece of roe.

I was quite surprised to see two Springs caught on Bar rigs today. I'm pretty surprised as I was under the impression that there was a sight factor involved. I guess its all about the vibration, probably a little bit of movement at the last second and scent as Jim has just proven.
I bounced for my Spring today. I lost on about 12-15 lbs right at 6:00am. Bad play on my part as I reeled onto the fish hard and was right on top of it within moments. I knew I shoudln't even reached for the net as the fish was too fresh but it must have been stunned or something as it was just laying on top. Stupid me, I even said to myself done do it, but I did. I reached with the net and the fish took off like a jet under the motor and pulled itself off the leader.
Then at 2:00pm I finally hooked up again and down the river I went. This one just wouldn't give up. Down I go past new shallow water soon to be gravel bar. I wasn't going to rush this one but this became ridiculous. Finally, it tuckers out and I get the net under it. 15 lbs.
Already in the canner.

probably has most to do with scent and vibration, they can smell that roe from a ways off

I assume the 2lb piece of roe is an exaggeration. How do you rig up really big chunks without interfering with the SnG's spin?

Lots of beads would be my guess.
Has anyone ever bar fished with a big flatfish/kwikfish? I've got a couple that have rattles inside of them, plus they are designed to have herring fillets strapped to them.

1 31 lb spring out of the 5 day trip caught on Saturday . Had a bout with the natives on Ferry Isl. as they drifted into our bar rigs almost sending one of the rods in the river . Grabbed the rods just in time . After allot of yelling matches they were off to get more recruts . Funny how they seem to get there when a good push of springs moved in . Two guys below us just hit into 2 spring within 1o minutes of each other , then a few tail splashes from more moving up , and out of nowhere the native skif swoops in . hmm..., same observation with the fish push and native drift net boat last Saturday on Scale bar. Looks like they have some kind of information exchange about when the fish is pushing in
