I just got back from a week at Dominic lake where a friend has a cabin. I've never seen so many mosquitoes in my 53 years. Mean little fellows, they were taking the top off the deet jugs and drinking it. :o. The weather was pretty unsettled, but when we could get out on the water, the fishing was fast and furious. While not particularly big, the line would barely get a chance to start sinking before I'd get a hit. Deer all over the place. It's a shame that the pine beetle has devastated the forest to such a huge extent there as it looks like a moonscape in a lot of spots.
A white rear in the away position:

A little hail storm passed through:

A double rainbow, but look at those red pines.

Great shots...too bad about the beetle infestation :'(
I've always had limited success there, the odd few trolling a leach.
Any tips to up my catch rate?
Thanks

There's a couple of areas to try. A sunken island on the back end and a sinking line right down the middle. As it's a spring fed lake the thermocline is very pronounced and a productive area. There was a minor mayfly hatch, but we just trolled a dragonfly nymph and did pretty well. Because the lake is spring fed, the fish aren't big enough to throw a saddle on, but they were yummy stuffed with shrimp, garlic and butter, served over wild herbed rice. ;D The weather wasn't the best and the road in was a mess, but it was really good when I got out.
