Heading up to Beaver Lake between Kelowna and Vernon for a few days as soon as school is out. Anyone ever camp or stay at Beaver Lake resort and have any tips...........especially for getting your 10 year old boy into some fish?

WE got back from Oyama lake recently and fishing was good. however the time you are going might have mosquitos at the time you want to cook and eat. I think surplus herbys still sells those mosquito head nets. Go for the expensive ones because they last a zillion times longer, and you can see better out of the mesh. Ask the beaver lake resort which flies are working and get some. Your kid might enjoy fly fishing as a challenge. Again Surplus herby or any tackle shop might have a beginner set. Or borrow a beginner set from someone. Good luck, we had a blast. Oh bye the way the fishes were only 4 to 8 feet deep last week. Oyama lake and Beaver are sort of the same elevation.

Thanks for the tips. I totally forgot about the mosquitos. I'll check-out Surplus Herby's this weekend and Army & Navy for a cheap flyrod for him.

Just came back from 5 days at beaver lake. Great place for a family vacation. My 10 year old caught his share of fish and better yet, he caught more fish using a fly rod then hardware (just trolling flys). He's hooked and wants to take fly casting lessons. I think I'll join him and learn some proper techniques. Even my 15 year old niece got hooked (pardon the pun) on fishing.
Oh and if you're wife is tired of fishing trips, no worries, she can get a variety of massages at extremely reasonable prices......which gives you more time on the water.
I'll post some pics soon.

Lucky you. How was the air temp ? It was stinking hot at the skagit. However the water was 7 C while the air was 30 C. What flies worked ? Now you might be corraled into going fly fishing each camping trip.

I just came back from okanagan valley, there is a lake named "shannon lake" at westbank, it stocks tons of bass, it is good for child fishing from shore or launch an inflatable boat, even in the noon, the bite is very good.

The air temp for the first few days was quite cool (elevation of 4500 feet), but started to warm up. Its not as hot as the lower elevations. the lake was cool, which probably explains the excelllent fishing.
Caught most of the fish on shrimp or green or black leech patterns. the shrimp pattern was new to me.....grey / brown with some red in the underbelly. Also hot a few hits on a green spratley. for hardware, the willow leaf or ford fender was getting hits, but the shrimp was the most productive.
Great fighting fish. We only got about 1/2 of our hooked fish into the boat. Of course this could have something to do with our skill. *L* The few that we kept for the pan tasted great. No muddy flavour at all,
