Title: Freshwater or Shore Based fishing on Quadra or Cortes Islands
Post by: bcsixgill on June 02, 2009, 01:10:49 PM
Thinking about heading up the Sunshine Coast in late July - Early August, then over to Quadra and Cortes.  I've heard that there are Cutthroat in the lakes on Quadra and Cortes.  Would be intersted in hearing from anyone who has done any fishing up there, or even some spots for decent shore based fishing.

I'm trying to balance fishing for my 10 year old and I with a beach vacation for my wife..........sound familiar?  *L*

Any suggestions?

Quadra and Cortes aren't on the Sunshine Coast -do you mean Vancouver Island?

Click Here for an area map (http://www.hellobc.com/NR/rdonlyres/C990F7B1-200F-4A56-9E91-5A169353F00B/0/island.pdf)

I know there are a few small lakes on Quadra but have never bothered to fish them.

Cortes Island - Gunflint and Hague lakes. Best is Gunflint with cutthroat.I fished out of my pram out front of the farms.Dragged black sparkled buggers on a clear int line.Might be a few spots where the road is close to the lake.

Thanks for the info.  We've got an old 12ft porta-bote that's pretty easy to pack around.  Gunflint sound perfect as my little guy wants to start using a fly rod.

I read that they have resident cutthroat.  Supposedly the fishing isn't bad....but I'll have to wait until I've got some first-hand experience.
