A few friends and I are thinking of travelling to a lake to do some fly fishing for trout. We have been having great success at a lake called Hi Hume near Cache Creek for the past few years and are looking for a change of scenery. We don't mind driving 5-6 hours from Vancouver. If anyone has any ideas or knows of some good spots We would love to hear from you.

If you want to try for big fish go to Sheridan Lake.

Suppose to be good sized Brookies and Rainbows in there.
My Grandparents were going to buy a Cabin there in the 60's but they just gassed the lake, so they bought at Young Lake instead. Then they stocked Sheridan with Rainbows and Brookies after the rotenone treatment. .
I heard the brookies do grow to a good size in Sheridan but the only time I ever catch brookies seems through the ice, no matter what lake and it is not from the lack of trying in the open water months, one day though I will catch a Brookie in open water lol...
Those lakes between Cache Creek and Clinton on the Hwy are great for brookie fishing in the winter through the ice if you are into that. I actually have some pics from those lakes on my facebook page. I used to fish them all the time when I was working in Cache Creek and I always stop at the one with the pull out for lunch (first lake on the right if you are heading North from Cache Creek) and fishing on my way to Young Lake yet no luck unless there is ice is the only time I seem to catch them lol although others managed..I must be cursed or something ha ha.
Anyone have any tips for open water non ice covered brookie fishing?? lol
Crystal Lake is another lake to try, I have always caught fish there. The largest I personally caught was a 22'' rainbow back in July 1985 since then 12-16 is the average for me.

I used to catch lots of Brookies in luciellee lake in Garibaldi and I found them to always be right on the bottom. Before I fly fished only, I would just troll bait, usually worms SLOWLY. After graduating to fly fishing I used Leeches, Dragon nymphs, Damsel nymphs, Black Spratleys with
a slow troll as deep as I could get. I have not been up there for two seasons, but I will get back this year be it spring or fall.

Sheridan lake, I've seen some big fish come out of it, though my best was only about 2 1/2 - 3 lbs. Last time I was there, the lake was so clear you needed a leader about 6M long.

Head to Clinton, then head south to Kelly Lake, camp at Dowding on Kelly. After setting up camp at Kelly back track to Leighwood Lake the lake you passed on the way in. Lots of nice Brookies and Bows to 6lb. Kelly has some nice fish too.

How about Lac Des Roche? Great May fly Lake. They Have great cabins and boats. And there are a lot lakes to explore in that area.

Sorry, Didn't notice the tent trailer and cartopper comment.
If you are planning your trip in july or august, then I would suggest Tunkwa and Leighton, as they tend to fish well in the heat.

July/August,
Try higher elevation lakes such as
-Island
-Sheriden
-Dairy ( The Kamloops area one)
Try to stay above 4500 feet.
