Title: coastal cutthroat trout fishing on the North Shore

From what I have read from Rod's excellent blogs/articles, there is cutthroat trout fishing to be had at this time of the year.  Has anyone had any success on the North Shore?

Once upon a time I worked out of the DFO lab in West Van. Fished almost faithfully everyday before or after work. March to Nov. Walked the beach from the lab to Cypress creek . All that time caught 2 cutties and 2 coho, few sculpins, and sole.
There are quite a few areas, the thing to do is just go out and explore - fish the tides.

Thanks!  So fish the beaches either side of and the mouths of any of the creeks?  Also, is high or low tide preferred?

North shore cutts are pretty much history. Every creek has been raped and abused so badly that they can hardly support any life. Not to say there is perhaps not a remnant population somewhere out there. But I have not seen one in about ten years.

Best to explore the beaches and keep your eyes open for risers. They are some there it is just a matter of finding them. Might be better time spent on the Harrison or Fraser backwaters

Have to agree with MCI.
But the key is just getting out and exploring. It's all part of the Fishing experience.
I had such a day last week. Finally was able to go to the Fraser and search for Cutties. Have a place I like going too. It takes about 1/2 an hour to walk there after parking the car. Was last there in Nov and caught a couple of Cutties on the Dry Fly. And this area had a fairly good number of Chum spawning there. Needless to say I was really looking forward to it. Got there....It has all dried up! Nothing but a few isolated pools. It was a further 1/2 hour of walking till I came to the River where it would be fishable. Then it really got windy! Making casting a nightmare. So, in the end walked for about 4 hours and got my exercise and maybe fished for 1/2 an hour. But I still had a great day. Who knows I may even go back....in the fall when there should be some water!
