Title: Buntzen Lake
Post by: Hollis on March 31, 2009, 08:02:36 AM
Looking to take my belly boat up to Buntzen Lake. Could anyone offer up suggestions as to what pattern of fly's would work this time of year??
Any advise would be appreciated.

troll a black spratley. it has worked everytime i have been there. some days are always better then others of course. Your in a float tube so you might want to launch and then head left into the bay so your somewhat sheltered from the wind  ;) this is usually where i fish because i to was in a float tube.

Thanks for the feedback. I will try both Spratleys, then send pictures of the big one. Ha ha

Though I haven't fished Bunzten much, I did have luck trolling a froggy coloured flatfish. Trolled on the right hand side from the launch right up to the far end.

???well i can tell you what didn't work.....rowed a black wooly buggar and a chronomid pattern around the lake for around 3 hrs last weekend, not even a hit. couple of fish jumping, no hatches to be seen. saw a couple of fish pulled in, but too far away to notice what they were using. i think i'll wait until it warms up a little more, or maybe try (gasp) bait! as i recall, i had better luck May-June last year. good luck!

I was wondering how the local lakes are fairing. Hopefully this weekend will pick up a bit with the warmer weather. I was at Rice Lake a couple of weeks ago and there was still a bunch of snow!
