A few years ago I did not know of FWR. --- One day while bike riding I saw 50 to 100 fishermen & ladies casting lures for pink salmon at Gerry Park...Steveston Harbour area. [ my immeadiate thought was..."WHAT IS GOING ON DOWN THERE ...I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS MANY PEOPLE FISH HERE BEFORE"] ------------------ I noticed one chap seemed to hook more PINKS than anyone else. --- A fisherman said to me something like... OH THAT'S ROD.... HE HAS A WEBSITE CALLED "FISHING WITH ROD." ------ That very night I checked the FWR site out---- CONCLUSION... was very IMPRESSED with the quality...& the site has always stayed that way... When something has quality it only means one thing... there has to be honorable & quality people behind it. --- Thanks to all at FWR. -----  Great to have the forum back up & running !!!

Become a subscriber or get to a total of 50 post and you'll see the report section.

The limit of 50 is not completely fair.    I have been a contributor for some time but I have tried to limit my input to substantial comments or information.   Result: only 40 posts so I cannot see the fishing reports.    Sooo, I will be making lotsa extraneous comments.   This makes 41.

Its very good to see the site back up and running,I'm glad to see that you have made some changes and hopefully it will achieve what you are trying to accomplish with FWR,without sites such as yours to keep people informed on what is going on with our fisheries allot of the public would have no clue of the many positives and negatives that encompass our local fisheries today,i firmly believe that without such sites there would be even less public involvement and knowledge to enhance our resource and tackle some of the dilemmas that it is facing, with everything there will allways be the negative aspects ,but i am glad that you are trying to clean this up and look at the positives that your site and others have accomplished regarding our sportfishery and the commitment of sharing the knowledge you and many forum members have to pass along to help both the newbie and more veteran fisherman enjoy our fisheries to the fullest.

You mean the forum was temporarily unavailable?

I didn't notice anything. Worked fined for me.
The only quirk was that I had to log in every time I wanted to read it.  ;D

 :P

Good to see some of you guys back! :)

The purpose of the 50 post limit is to reduce the amount of people that can view the reports section and encourage sharing of information. A large amount of the problems that arise from the reports section are due to people "Hot-Spotting" or giving away "Secret" spots. By limiting the amount of people that view the forum you can basically take the complaint of people saying "Yah you caught fish today but there will be 100 people there tomorrow" away. There are currently only 370 Members with 50 or more posts, and some of them probably don't log on anymore.

If you are under the 50 post limit don't spam post to get your count up; make them meaningful posts. I'm already noticing a lot of spam posts, which will probably all end up getting delete.

Hi All ...

Yes, good to see the forums back up. Missed browsing the B&S for gear. I picked up a nice rod and reel off a member last fall.

50 posts?  :( .... for us closet type beginners, who'd rather read and learn, as opposed to posting endless questions (kinda like that youngster who asks everything  ;D) ... looks like this newbie will have to ask all. :-[

I understand I can become a subscriber :-\ ... as The Journal are great reads, but one does have to live within a bugdet and license renewal is upon us. :(

Sooo ... my 1st question. Where does a newbie report their reports?

I checked the website several times a day hoping that it would be back up, then I started to lose hope, and then it was back up, I am very happy now. I really missed the emphasis on the Vedder river with conditions and reports.

Rods subscription prices are very fair. Its not even $2/month. I will gladly pay everytime my renewal comes up. The money is not all for himself, he donates $5 from each subscription to Fish for the Future. He does an amazing job on the site and an even more amazing job with all the things he does outside of the site for fishing. The economy is affecting me as well but $20? Just dont drive as much for two weeks and there its paid for.....Thats about 1/5th of a tank of gas for me. Its  drop in the bucket for all he does.

Just remember their are so many other features on this site. The amazing tips and techniques is almost endless. All with video clips. If your new to fishing getting a subscription here will help you become a better angler and make the learning curve that much shorter. Rod is also a very nice individual who is easy to talk to.

Anyways thats my 2 cents....

Long time coming!! ;D. Makes me think, if the mods were to give up because of all the negativity,  the fishing community would suffer the loss of a great resource.I wonder why my post count has been lowered. Before the site shut down I could view fishing reports??????
Tight lines and thanks to the mods for the work they put in to this site

Definately appreciate even the limited access as it helps me learn about things i never new.  The most valuable lesson one can learn is on the river/lake anyway so only time can really teach you.

Is it wrong to give out fishing spots? I didn't Know they were secrets I always thought the vedder river was very accessable with plenty of room for everyone to fish.

I wouldn't worry about it. You've got 37 posts to go. ;)

I wasn't affected as some of you guys as this happened while I was on my 3 weeks vacation. What are the reasons for the shut down again and why no prior warning?  ;D

Glad to have it back though like every one.  :D

If one of the reasons for the shut down is to reduce negative posts, then hopefully every one learns to be more positive and supportive in the future. Cheer on your fellow fishers instead of being a blood hound. Share generously to help each other to be more successful.  ;)

Fish in peace!  :)

I really do not understand why my post count has dropped.  Not that I post alot, but why were they taken away?  I agree this is a great forum, I like reading the reports to see how guys are doing.  Stealing other guys fishing spots, not me, I don't have the time to fish.  And if I do, I much rather just go boating or quading than sit at the shore and get skunked again, or have someone always crossing my line and getting tangled up.  Anyways it is a long way to 50, so I guess I will not be reading then for awhile.
Title: Re: who's happy, FWR is back?

I drop by and maybe do not contribute as much as I would like/should.

Either way, it is nice to see the site back up and running.

Keep up the good work.

On the other side of the coin, if you are one of the posters who may have put the site off the web for a bit, try to think twice or how to be more "civil" before posting.

I am certainly pleased to see it back.. I have been a keen fisher for years but didn't fish rivers much and all my buddies were hunters, skiers, ocean trollers and so on so I had few sources of river fishing information.   This site has been so helpful.

Glad to see the forum available to everyone again. While I understand Rod's frustration with dealing with the negatives that flow off some folks keyboards I also know he has access to the delete and ban buttons. The only people that I believe might be offended when he pushes those buttons, will be the folks that constantly make the negative comments.....

Hi all, I still haven't had the time to reply to this thread but here are some quick answers to some of the questions.

Re: Post counts
I haven't reduced members' post counts, at least not intentionally. Sometimes we delete old threads that are completely irrelevant even in the archive (ie. where to fish tomorrow?). When that happens, post counts may go down if your post(s) are in those threads.

Re: Fishing report section
The ten post requirement was poorly decided by me long ago, so we decided to raise the required post number to 50. The idea is still the same, to raise the quality of the reports, to have a place where members who contribute can mutually benefit. The fishing report section is well archived with location and dates, which in my opinion is good references in the future.

If you want to read Chris' journal, you don't need to gain access to the fishing report section to do so. Chris' journal entries can be found on this page (bookmark it!):

http://www.fishingwithrod.com/blog/?cat=17

You can also subscribe to the RSS feed to receive updated entries in your browser.

My fishing trip reports/stories can also found in the blog section at:

http://www.fishingwithrod.com/blog/?cat=7

Someone else asked about where newbies can post their reports. Feel free to post your reports in the general discussion.

Re: subscribing
Some clarification is needed on this. Gaining access to the fishing reports section is just one feature for subscribers. Being able to send personal messages is another. Subscribers also receive access to videos. There are currently about 6 hours of videos available. We try to feature a different fishery in each video diary. I also try to run as many draws as possible for subscribers. As well as the Fishy Shot contest. Like Brian said, $5 of your susbcription fee goes to Fish for the Future, which is especially important this year as the seed funding from the Family Fishing Weekend Society has been cut in half, so the website will make up the other half to keep the event going this year. Also, if you attend the a Chilliwack River cleanup, you get a free annual subscription (next one is on this Saturday!).

I still have a lot of emails that I haven't replied. In case you sent one and are wondering, I am still hoping to get to them. I received just over 200 about the forum when I closed it for a week.

Thanks for the support, glad many are enjoying the forum.

I actually did not know about FWR until I read it was down on Bc Fishing. It got all controversial and they banned that user benthook for life because the moderator there Iron Noggin and a a user Milo got into it with him. Seemed unfair so I resigned my membership there using mod power to cancel someone they did not agree with. Glad to be on board here though. Tight lines.

Very glad to see this site back up again.  Not least because this is an archive of theads (including some I started) that have been a wealth of information on everything on fishing in the lower mainland - that kind of local information has been very valuable to me.  I hope the informative ones have been kept around.

Maybe I will print them all the interesting theads just in case this site never comes back again  ;)
