Hey thanks "skunked" I appreciate the intel. Its a long drive from mission only to find the launch in not functional. If I get a decent day this next week I'll take the kids for an outing. They are chomping at the bit to get fishing this year and I want to make the first one a good day. Thanks again
May the fish gods be with you.

Great info ---- Sounds like a good time to fish kakawa !!! Just wondering if the lake gets stocked? I imagine it does as the fishing pressure must be high. --------- I once assumed any lake close to roads or hwy. would not be very good.... but 10 Mile Lake near Quesnel changed all that THINKING .... lots of fish in the lake & even one big trout broke my fly rod at the handle --- it was so BIG 16 INCHER or more & fat!

Fished it today and the first launch is still covered. The side launch is clear and easy to get to. Probably a few more days until the first launch is clear.

Where is the side launch that you are talking about--is it the one that is located inside the camp ground--if so is there a fee?

How deep do you have to fish in Kakawa if you are using chronomids?
-
Was there on saturday, there was a good chronny hatch going on all over the lake. Tried a chronny for a bit, no luck. Most parts of the lake are like 35+ feet. I hate fishing that deep with fly gear. they were slaying them on pink krill.

can anyone tell me generally the best fishing time for Kakawa...I mean April? May? June? Also, does it matter much early morning or midday?
Cheers all...and thanks in advance!

I've heard that Kawkawa might be turning over and is not fishing very well for the fly guys. Any first-hand and recent info on the topic?
-
Yeah flys were not producing that well on the weekend. Bait fisherman were cleaning up! From what I've been told, it fishes best from about now until the end of May. Apperently, fishing of any kind in the summer is slow.

Both fly and bait were not fishing well in the last few days.
