Title: birthday gift!
Post by: rhino on March 12, 2009, 03:12:06 PM
my 30th birthday is a couple weeks away  :( (unfortunately) and the nice thing is that my lovely fiance wants to get me a guided trip to the upper pitt river because she knows how I have always wanted to fish it. I wanted to get any advice from the knowledgeable people on his forum if the timing is worth while investing the money in and any guide recommendations that you may have. it would probably be the last week in march.

that you all in anticipation.

Give the boy's at Harrison Bay Guided Services  a call 1-877-796-3345. I know Chad & Eric both take customers up there alot.  I hope you find someone to take you up there as the fishing can be awsome. Good Luck Griz :)

Id say its a pretty good time for the Upper Pitt.

No salmon but all the dollies, bulls , cuttys and steelhead + resident trout will be gobblin' up all the sockeye fry and others.

Good luck !

Pitt River Lodge has a really good rate if you find two chums ( need a second or third man I'm in ! ) to go with. 3 people for a day trip is $290.00 pp if you have three peeps.

Check out the link and some pics :

Garry Elgear of Riverside Fly and Tackle does guided trips up there. He has a truck at the dock at the top of the lake so if you are opposed to jet boating the river he can drive you around up there instead. If you would rather be in a jet boat he can put you with one of his guides that do that.

Also Todd Sharfe (sp?) regularly guides up there. He may be fly only though.

Seconded, I'd go with Garry, if nothing else, he's a hoot to fish with.

Todd's a great jet boat driver and the boating part of the adventure with him is worth the trip alone. Like mentioned above he is an exceelent fly casting instructer, taught my wife how to do it. Has first rate equipment and does a great lunch.

No dieter the upper pitt is NOT fly fishing only its just what a majority of people that fish like to do. Im pretty sure it has a bait ban year round though but would have to check reg's to make sure. I have been up there a few times in my younger days but sadly it wasnt fishing  :'( now i want to go back just for fishing LOL

If you decide to go the guide route, I would go with Gary. Good instructor, good angler, and like has been said earlier in this tread always a Hoot.

i'd be up for taking a second or third spot as well on a charter. fished the river before but never via jet boat...

Harry Penner out of Fraser River Lodge likely has the most experience of anyone out there. I wouldn't hesitate a day with him.

Garry Elgear is the owner of Riverside Fly and Tackle. He can be a hard guy to get a hold of but leave a message at the shop saying "I'd like to book a fishing trip with Garry on the Upper Pitt" and you'll be sure to get a call back. 604-944-2479

The guys at the Upper Pitt Lodge probably know more about that river than any other guides. They live up there. However they are much more expensive than other guides.

You'll be getting the same birthday gift that I got this year....!  My trip is booked for June.  Unfortunately I can't help with the price of mine, it was auctioned off through the Steelhead Society and my hubby bought it for me, knowing I have always wanted to go there too.
We are going with Swiftwater Guiding, they have a website at www.salmonguidebc.com or you can email them at Swiftwater@shaw.ca for information.

Garry too knows the Pitt very well and would be a great guy to spend the day with on the river. (his contact info given above by Dion or reach him at Riverside Fly and Tackle).
As would the Pitt River Lodge (type in your browser, they have a website).

Hey, it's your birthday - and I call it for some, the trip of a lifetime! You deserve the best so spoil yourself.  :)

cheers,
Deb

Hey All, I've always wanted to fish the upper pitt but never had a chance! I've got a 16' alumaweld/ 60hp prop and would love to take it up there. If someone that knows the way up and where to go wants to go out sometime get back to me! I know we'll have to walk but that's cool with me. I just want to go with someone that has been up there before! Thanks

I fished the Upper Pitt with a guide at the end of June last year.  Fished hard all day and nada.  However it is a beautiful place and certainly worth a trip.   Put my luck down to an off day and hey, I'm totally inexperienced as a river fly fisher.

Go now before they build the generating plants.
