Tried my luck out at the stave yesterday. Got a nice hit at around 40' deep but was late on the strike. About 1 hour later other rod goes this time fish on. Battled for a good ten minutes only to see a laker of about 20+ lbs turn his head and bolt down to the bottom in a flash with my gear. That was all the action and then the wind and snow started blowing hard so we called it a day.

Hello Brothersage Have not fished the Stave for many years. I' ve never liked runnig the channel and have been concerned about breakins at the boat launch. Were you trolling spoons and do you fish alouette lake at all? I have a 17 ft glass ply and would be pleased to keep you company one day in the future. Im fishing steelhead right now when time permits but would be interested when steelhead season ends

How was the boat launch and the water levels?
Needing a trip up there soon myself.
Not sure about any big lakers in Stave Lake, but some big dollies are around.
Might have been one of those.

yah Im scared of that channel as well, seems like a good place for jets only I have been ripping down there to look down and reallize that I just whipped past a 30ft upright floating tree 4" under the surface that would have destroyed me!!!
Lakers Huh? any pictures of this in the past seasons?

Yup It was a laker. I've caught both laker's and Dolly's in there. It was hook on a 4" spoon behind a small flasher at about 40' deep. The boat launch was good I have a 16' alumaweld with a prop and I had no problem. I did have to slow down when we came to the first turn where it kind of splits. After the Island it was fine besides the snow and strong winds. Hey big Rob send me an email.

I have fished there a far bit and never caught a laker or seen any caught! you should get a lotto ticket! lol.

They are in there. Jay x owner of Jamer's Tackle now called Riverside, use to fish it weekly through the spring and summer. Man he caught some nice fish (I saw the pictures). He wouldn't tell me his secret spots, but offered to take me out with him. Alas I was too much in love with the Thompson at the time and never took him up on his offer.

Thanks newsman, you hit it right when you said secret spot! That's my lottery ticket Poper. I really can't stand how some of you guys are so quick with your worthless 2 cents on some posts. Just because you haven't caught any doesn't mean there not in there!!!! They are in there!

Seriously... Is that really necessary? Poper's post could be interpreted in two different ways. He said he has never caught or seen someone caught a lake trout in there, and said you might want to buy a lottery ticket because you are lucky unlike him. Instead you chose to interpret it as a negative remark.
It really is simple. If you choose to come here and expect others to be negative, then most likely you will feel some negativity because without a face, words can be read the wrong way with one blink.
Taking care of these unnecessary disputes is almost as bad as keeping 25 female contestants on The Bachelor under control. Pathetic.
