Post by: brood dude on December 31, 2008, 06:05:49 PM

depends where you go, a lot of places are icy and un plowed and a 4x4 is needed.... going down hopedale where u turn left to the river, 3 inches of solid ice across the road ::)

No major problems below the Vedder Bridge but bring a shovel. I got stuck in the Peach Road parking lot but just used the old carpet under the wheels to get out.

was planning on going tomorow, maybe the upper part of the river. How far up the chiliwack road could a med size front wheel drive car go ? Tamahi ?

Thanks,

Doja

The roads should be clear to the hatchery (prison was my furthest point). Once you get up to point a vista it gets a bit sandy with a bit of slush here and there but it's minor and not an issue.

Of course that's just the main road. Any of the pullouts or side roads are a mix of slushy snow and solid ice depending where you go. Shouldn't be a problem for most people but some might want to be prepared for poor parking conditions and potential of getting stuck.

Cool, thanks 8) was a little worried that the wheather was worse than I'd thought, but will definaity bring a peice of carpet which is a GREAT idea, thanks chris.

Just came up from Abbotsford. Wet snow with temperature around 2 C. The wind has melted some of the snow the last couple of days and all main roads are in good shape. I donot think anyone will have problems with the snow unless we get another snow storm. I believe one has to be careful walking to and along the river.

Time to shovel the driveway AGAIN, looks like around 5 inches.

Unless you have a 4x4, and other things like a shovel, carpet, sand etc. with you,  I would not risk fishing the upper Vedder. This recent dump of snow has covered over all the icy patches so if you get stuck you might have  to wait a while as the tow trucks are probably super busy today.

another dump of snow in the 'wack. just seen a plow go down chwk lake rd. looks wet and bare, the main road anyways, everything else is icy, and now covered in 4-5 inches of snow.
kids are loving this snow, another day of sledding down our driveway! (we havent been able to drive up or park on it for 2 weeks) :o

yeah, thats true Chris. but its only a little hill, not a mountain!  ;) Once it clears up a bit, you and your mrs will have to come for a visit. actually you are welcome to come anytime, depending on how adventurous you are feeling....they did plow the lane this afternoon. we are getting a mix of snow/slush/rain.

The back roads a bit slippery tonight. Unless it snows again the freeway should be ok.

hahaha thats hilarious!  :D
I think maybe most days it can only make it up to Lew's driveway!! ;)
actually it has made it up to us once or twice, but he hasn't been up since the driveway was poured.  Its now a downhill skating rink.
makes your crazy carpet go really fast, just ask the kids!!! :o
my new years goal: being able to drive on and park at the top of our driveway again! lol ( I know thats one goal I will for sure achieve!)

So does anyone know what the road conditions are like out in Chilliwack. I see the road are clear on the highway so I am looking to find out what the roads are like closer to the river.
Title: Re: road conditions????
Post by: dss on January 03, 2009, 09:31:07 AM
We only got a light dusting of snow last night (maybe 1cm) out towards rosedale area in Chilliwack so I would assume that the river roads got near the same. They were all pretty heavily sanded and plowed as well before this so I'm sure it's all melting and slush or bare by now. Might have snowed a ton out that way though..never know so take it easy if you come out.

Thanks dss. It is coming down here in Maple Ridge and the roads are completely covered. Snow seems to be coming down harder and harder as the morning goes by. Might just stay home.

Boy Chris you guys got off lucky. We have had to shovel the driveway 3 times today and it is still coming down. Got around 15-20cm . Made for some tough hiking around the river. Here is a picture of the trail in.

And here is one from the river. The snow on the trees is all new as they where bare the other day.

Snowing hard once again, most likely will have about 6 more inches before the rain comes to wash it all away and make the river unfishable at the same time.

Lots of snow starting to accumulate again and I just cleaned off the driveway as it is easier than letting it build up.The roads will not be that great tomorrow and access to the river may be a little tricky. I would say we have another 6 inches since it started this afternoon.

Ever notice that in the summer time, all the talk in the media is about global warming.  In the winter, they call it climate change and that can mean just about anything including global cooling.  Funnier yet, about 25 years ago the world was on a verge of another ice age.  And that was from the "experts" like David Suzuki.

Oh well, weather man got it wrong again as it's still snowing and I'm in the False Creek area.  Hoping for some rain but we'll see.....

We are not the central of the universe here in the lower portion of the province. Did you happen to notice that all of the eastern provinces last week were all above freezing? They are  getting colder now but during Christmas we were colder than they were and had way more snow.

In Vancouver tonight, from what I can see out my window, I would not recommend travelling out to the Vedder. Rain has now turned to snow, and the road conditions are down right ugly.  Looks like old man winter is going to be hanging around for a few more days.

Driveway shoveled for the 6th time this Winter. We had about a foot from this last storm but now we have rain and the melt is underway. The downside will be that the river will most likely go out in the next 24 hours or sooner.

The upside is, Spring is just around the corner, isn't it?

After all these snow in Vancouver, we should have reason to think 'global cooling' is on the way too.  ;D

Years ago, when the earth was 'cooler', didn't some of the local ski places go into receivership when they were hit with 2 years without snow. What has happened to Vancouver?  We should be ready for Hawaii like weather in a few decades, isn't it?   ;D ;D ;D
