Post by: devon42 on November 09, 2008, 05:40:34 PM
im wondering  if i really need one?

i read in the regs that if you just catch and release you dont need a salmon tag

has this changed or is it the same?

Angling for salmon in any way or form, regardless of retention,  you need a tag, besides its suspossed to support the industry but i wonder how much of the Tag goes to enhancement

No sorry Cam you are wrong. For Non Retention you do NOT need a salmon tag. Only for Steelhead do you require a tag to fish for.

Here you go: http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish/Licensing/default_e.htm#Salmon_stamps (http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish/Licensing/default_e.htm#Salmon_stamps)

Quote
Your Non-tidal Angling Licence must be validated with a provincial  salmon conservation stamp to keep a salmon of any legal size or species (other than kokanee) from non-tidal waters. A stamp is not required if you intend to release all salmon caught, however a provincial Non-tidal Angling Licence is still required.

Dont forget when angling for steelhead you MUST have a tag regardless if you want to retain a fish or not.
