We were at the Squamish for about 2 hours today. I didn't get a hit, nor did I see a fish taken by the 3 other fishermen (including my fishing partner) around me. I spoke to people who have caught fish, but in all our opinions, it is still early by about at least a week.

It seems kinda strange.... some people think that the Coho run is quite early. I agree on the Chum - there are still only few coming up - not the typical schools that you would expect.
It is pouring right now up here and water levels have come up fast. Maybe that will make the fish move into the system over the weekend.

The Cheakamus and Mamquam coho salmon runs typically arrive this time of the year, or a bit earlier, while Squamish main coho run arrives (or fishes best) in November. Chum salmon fishing on the Squamish, from my personal experience, is usually good by the first week of October. The fish are there as reported by many, but the river condition is just not favorable right now for anglers so catches are poor.
This rain may bring more fish in, but it will further degrade the river condition and limit fishing opportunities. Unless we get some cold and dry nights soon, we maybe looking at an even shorter Squamish River fishing season.

The last time I fished the Squamish system was in 1992. We were fishing the Elaho for Steelies and Dollies.
For the most part, 90% of that system has been dead for 20 years +.

I beg to differ, it may not be what it used to be, but there are still lots of fish up there. I've had 8+ coho landed in 2 hours, 10+ bull trout days, lots of chum, etc. Yesterday, I hooked a coho.
