Title: Vedder September 20, 2008
Post by: Geff_t on September 20, 2008, 08:05:45 PM
Well we got a late start today as my son had a football game this morning so we did not hit the river till noon. It was my brother, my 7 year old son and I. We hit mid river where there was only 2 guys on this run and the fish where threw out the run so I hook my son up on his new drift rod with a level wind and then I got all rigged up. I made sure he was short floating and I mean really short as I did not want him to hook up in the shallows and I wanted him to get used to casting and drifting and he did great and not one bird nest. He was able to cast to any area even the trees on the other side   . I was using roe today and hit just over a dozen springs and brought home a bar crome 14lbs female marble. My son played a jack and brought it in. Of course it was not on his rod but he played it from the time just after it was hooked. So we had a good afternoon of fishing. In 4 hours between my brother and I we hit over 20 fish only lost 2. I guess we got a good spot today. Here is a picture of my son, I think the smile says it all.

Late start today for me too. Had all the run to myself.
Hit a few springs, but lost all except a rather dark one, which was released to fisnish its business.

Caught my first chum of the season. ::)

Visibility was Ok, about 1.5 feet mid river.
In the evening, rain started coming down with a vengeance.
Wonder what the river will be like tomorrow...

Good to hear.  I have tried them out a couple times, but I still for now like my set-up.  Maybe I'll change it up once we move out to the Wack next early spring so I can get out a lot more.  It'll be nice, fishing 4-5 times a week without the big gas bill!! ;D

Quoting fly_guy: "Absoluty loving the pin. I now have 2. One is an old Gryce and young now matched woth a sage 3113..." I have a Sage 8113 and wondering what is a 3113?

Okay Spring, would it be a tad light for spring or even coho?

It isn't a Flyrod.  A 3 power drift rod/CP rod is basically a sensitive meat stick.

A 3113 is definitely not a meat stick....

Dude, I have had 3 of them.... it definately isn't strickly a coho rod.  I have landed big Steelhead and much bigger Spring on them with no issue.  Thus, I call it a sensitive meat stick, a sensitive high priced meat stick.  To me any rod with a line rating of 17lbs or more is a meat stick. ;)

depends wat model, a 3113mb is a great all around rod for everything... a 3113lb is a tad light for springs but will do in a pinch

Isn't the 3113LB considered to be by many "The" coho and steelhead rod of B.C.? 3113LB, 3113MB, or 3113M in my mind are no way at all meat sticks. Want a meat stick? Buy a Technium :-X

Exactly. The 3113mb is in no way a meat stick. Not even a sensitive meat stick. The technium now there is a meat stick. Which one did you own DMW. I thought you only had one sage and that was a 2106.

Meat stick = a rod with good backbone.
I regard "sensitive meat stick" = good rod :) :)

No I had 2 3113mb's one of which was stolen, so I got a second clone from Berry's,  and now a Rainshadow that is exactly like the 3113mb. I wasn't tryin to bash them at all, I love em.  Thus the reason I keep going back to the same thing.

Also had a 2106CT.  That rod was light, Springs 15lbs or more gave it quite the workout.

Oh sorry my mistake. I always thought it was your Custom Talon that got stolen.

No actually your right.  I'm on glue or something, the Talon was swiped, another rod that I loved.  It was replaced by the Sage 3113mb, which was as close to the Talon as I could find at the time. I then got the 2106ct to go with it for a while and now I have the Rainshadow 3113mb clone.....
