Title: Chilliwack River, September 18th 2008
Post by: Fish Assassin on September 18, 2008, 07:46:35 PM
Left the bright lights of the city at 0700 hours. Arrived at Keith Wilson Bridge an hour later; there were already 9 cars there. We continued our drive up river past the Crossing (8 guys there), past Wilson Road (another 9) After a 20 minute hike arrived at our destination. Water visibility was about a foot. Second cast in, BAM a 10 lb. chinook. My buddy caught it's twin in the early afternoon. Foggy patches in the early morning but clearing to overcast day. Very enjoyable day.

Headed out for first light this morning.  The water looked pretty good, about 2 feet or more on the lower.  Started out with a wool tie but nothin doing other than a bunch of taps from some smolts.  Some fish started rising but not a whole ton of them, so I switched up to a brass colorado and second cast, float under and fish on.  Coho came rolling to the surface and then gone.  Darnit.  After that a couple other float downs but nothing stayed then it died and nothin doin for a couple hrs.  So I moved up river and noticed that the river had changed location since the last time I was there.  After some hiking to find the river again, walked up on a nice run that was void of people and started chuckin some roe, but after an hr of that decided to change up to a blade again, not long after, float down, set the hook and almost had the rod pulled out of my hand by a big bastard and it wasn't long after that the rust in my game helped out with the big chromer spring in braking off my meager 8 lb test leader.  Had a couple other float downs and one brief headshake, but that was it for the day.  Was nice to get out again though.  Didn't see a whole lot of action, one other guy hooked a Coho but soon lost it and another guy hooked into a spring that wound up pullin free after a spirited tussle.

Arrived at the river at 7:30ish. Fished mid river with roe, and nothing. Did some walking and found some nice water. Managed to get an 18lb spring on wool and another take later in the day on roe. Seems like there are quite a few fish there, but they are picky.

The 2 other guys I was with both had 1 or 2 hookups but nothing to the beach. Left at noon.

Caught one 27 lb last week, it had a piece of tail already rotten, and some fins too. Turned dark in 5 minutes, but was bronze-chrome when I came home. It was a red buck and the meat was as good as the ones from the Fraser in July. Go figure  ::)

Yup a few Chum are starting to show up.  I caught a Chum and a wild Coho the aft. Had a seal come within 10 ft of me heading down river.

good to hear that they're agressive enough to hit blades. Seems like u had quite a few hits, only takes on trip for the WD-40 to work its magic, now u should start hauling them in
