Title: Family Fishing Trip/Where To Go?
Post by: Colorado Grinner on August 10, 2008, 11:37:41 AM

The wife wants a quiet,3-4 night  lake fishing trip sometime over the next couple weeks. We were thinking somewhere in the Merrit\Kamloops area.

Here are the list of demands:  Cabin rental
                                            flush  toilets
                                            no mice
                                            hot showers
                                            maybe electricity

We have a 12' car topper with oars but no electric motor yet so smaller lakes would be easier to cover. I was thinking of somewhere like The Chataway Chain Resort
or Roche Lake.Does anybody have personal experiences with either one of these places or any suggestions of other places.

Thanks in advance for any input,
                                                                                                                           Ian

Chataway was nice, the cabins didn't have running water, and electricity was lights only and for a timed period. So I would say that it doesn't fit yor demands. Roche however is very nice and would do you fine.

Salmon Lake on the Douglas lake ranch, nice cabins, a general store and swimming pool !!!!

I stayed at Mile High in June, and Chataway last month. Mile High Resort has more comfort features and a wide range of cabins from a simple A-Frame to all-comforts log homes. Check their website for all the details. Face Lake was fishing very well. Better with some power on your boat - you may be able to rent an electric from them. At Chataway, the cabins are more "rustic" and the way it is nestled between the hills makes it a little noisy so the wilderness experience gets diluted. However, there's lots of smaller trout in the lake for non-stop action if you want. Oars work fine on this lake. There are also some very nice remote lakes in that area, within 20min. 4X4 drive from Chataway - but make sure you get verbal directions - the active logging has created clearcuts and new logging roads that are not on the maps yet. Both are great family-oriented resorts.

Tunkwa Lake resort is great. It's near Kamloops.
Nice cabins, good pricing or tenting, fun for the whole family.
Plus all of the "requirements" above.
Good luck

Thank you everybody for your response. Ive decided to break down and purchase the electric motor this weekend
as it sounds like its limiting my choices. I'm researching all the places mentioned.
Sounds like Corbet lake should be a fit?
Gooey,I was told this is a private lake?
Has anybody stayed at "Wendego Lodge on Tranquille Lake"

Corbett is Private, it's a little pricey but worth it because the fishing is insane. I would check out Tunkwa, they rent gas motors. Very reasonable and great fishing.

Wendego lodge is a beautiful place. We were hunting up there last year and accidentally came across this lake driving down all the logging roads. Nice little cabins and the lake isnt very big either (I also think they rent boats). I know for a fact that there are huge trout up that way that are around 5 pnds + because 2 years ago when we were up there (warmer that year) they were surfacing everywhere, not in tranquille lake though (we didnt know about that lake, dont remeber name of one we were at), but if you are willing to drive for an hour down some bumpy roads there are lots of lakes around with massive fish. The one lake we stopped at we must have seen 20 trout that were 5 + pounds jump in 30 mins all within casting distance from shore. Didnt have my fly rod with me that year  :'( and when I took it this past year it was -2  ::) Figures
