Title: Car Topper-Plug Or No Plug?
Post by: Colorado Grinner on June 15, 2008, 01:01:36 PM

I recently purchased a used 12' Harbour Craft, The friend I brought with me to pick it up pointed out to me "and its even got a plug!". I thought it would standard to have a drain plug in a 12' ???

I think that mostly older boats have plugs.

Someone mentioned that it is relatively expensive to install a plug in a boat these days - sounds reasonable.

My 12' aluminum has a plug, my Zodiac has a plug, my fibreglass dinghy doesn't.  I can agree that "plugs" would be more expensive.  Also, I have never used the ones that I have.  Are they needed in the smaller sizes?

A plug expensive??

Buy plug.  Drill hole.  Put plug in.  Seal Plug.    It would take longer to dry the sealant than do the job!

Can't be expensive.....unless you "have it done".

I meant that it is more expensive to install a plug in the manufacturing process for the boat.

Manufacturers want to produce the boat as cheap as possible so they can sell it as cheap as possible.

I have never used the one in my 12' boat as well - you have to be going a decent speed if you want to open it when you are in the water.
