Title: gravel extraction on Vedder
Post by: bentrod on June 11, 2008, 04:13:40 PM
Last fall, there were several discussions related to gravel extraction on the Vedder.  Does anyone know if they will follow through with it this summer?  If so, when and where?

They have done gravel extraction for 3 years now that I know of in the Vedder. 3 years ago they were down past the train bridge in yarrow, some came up to Lickman road area. The next year there were some down towards the end of Lickman road, 1 at Lickman Road, 1 just up past Peach, and even one close to the Vedder Crossing bridge (late in the fall on the native reserve area). This past year I don't remember seeing any. If they do dredge gravel they normally stay around 5 feet back from the river and take it away from the islands and then dig 2 trenches leading into the holes so that water can get in. Hope that helps a little, don't know if they will be doing any this year, normally the use the "flooding" excuse if they expect there will be a lot of rain later in the fall.

Yes they are, I just a copy today of the plans what is going to happen but I have not read it over yet.

They have been doing it every two years, non pink year.
