took the family to buntzen today for a fishing/boating/picnicing field trip.
shortly after launching the boat and getting the two fly lines in the water, my four year old son hooked and landed his first rainbow on his own. landed a 13 incher. 1/2 hour later, i hooked another one for him around the same size that he reeled in.
both were caught on a red doc spratley. overall i thought it was good fishing considering we were just trolling around flies for about 1.5 hours.
very hot day.

good to hear you're introducing angling to the next generation.if you have the means buntzen is the ideal spot to introduce kids to fishing:decnt fishing and an awesome beach and pic-nik area.my daughter still to this day reaps great enjoyment telling the story of how she caught 6 trout and dad caught none.laughs her head off still!she was 4 then and 8 now and ties her own flies from her own kit and isn't too bad of a caster(about 30-40')as well.keep em on the water not in the computer room i say!! :)
ssab nik
Great little story...where's the 2 thumbs up icon?

we have been fishing alpine lakes, namely the nahatlatch and the chilliwack, both being very cold experiences with wind and glaciers nearby. think we should try out bunzen burner for a warmer experience and glad to see that people are catching fish.

here is the picture of my son's first fly caught rainbow. hooked, landed on his own using a red spratley.
he claims it was his lucky hat!
