Title: Chilliwack Lake Today
Post by: Jamie_in_the_Wack on May 10, 2008, 10:41:06 PM
The snow finally melted and they opened access to Chilliwack Lake on Friday.  I pulled the boat up today and dragged gear for a few hours.  Landed a 3.5 lb dolly in the first 10 mins, also caught 2 kok's and a 1.5 lb cutty.  Not a bad morning at all, my buddy had a huge fish on, fought like a log.  I think it was a big dolly 10-15 lb range, lost it close to the boat.  Then I had to look at his lower lip quivering the rest of the morning  :-[

Great time though, lots on the fish finder.  Might go back tommorrow....

Good for you guys. That club you use for smacken fish takes care of quiver lip too. I love downriggin on that Lake early in the season. Plugs and people who got the nerve for action is what counts. 8)

I've only fished it once in recent years. We managed one decent dollie on the kokanee gear, fished without downriggers.

I was fishing with downriggers.  Caught the dolly 400m straight out from the launch at 20' using a 3" rapella.  Lost the large dolly using a larger rapella at 46'.  Caught the cutty and Kok's on the surface using red wedding band with worm.  Also lost several other Kok's.  The smaller fish were all taken within 200-300m of the Chwk river start point.  There was losts of fish on the finder along the south shore of the lake.

I'm off Friday's and will be going to drag gear there again on the 23rd, I'll post if I get a sniff.  I was talking to a fella at the launch that had success fishing the North side of the lake, fishing from shore beside the road, he didn't say what he was using though??

Just the rapella with the one line a small gang troll with the other.  A dolly hit both, so I don't know if one is a better setup than the other.  Really I think you just have to get it in front of them right now.  Very little wind when I was there,  my boat is 8' 4" wide so the wind doesn't bother me too much.
