My Wife's uncle (A big time flyfisher) was down this weekend from Kamloops. He said that the lakes around Kamloops are still covered with 12" of ice.
If the weather warms up, they should start being fishable in a week to 10 days.

Co-worker said Stump had large cracks across it from the weekend.
-
still winter anywhere above the Ponderosa Pine. Stump may come off in the next week or so if the wind keeps up. Nicola is ice free but has fished slow. One guy last week caught one trolling about 3.5lbs. The kokanee are not even trying to bite yet.

i am working in the area and keep passing lakes that last year at this time were ready to go. the job would be so much easier if those lakes would co-operate. had to come back to vancouver just to get some fishing in. maybe next week?

How about Roche? The boys from work are going up on the weekend of the 30th. Anyone fished there? Is the ice off? Has it turned?
Thanks,
Brad
-
any ideas of when Tunkwa will turn? Ice off was 2-3 days ago i am heading up there Friday for 2 days i hope i dont hit it at the wrong time!
-
Roche is still 90% covered
tunkwa hasn't turned yet, might be few good days of fishing before it happens, if the wind stays away. after that it will be 2 weeks before its back.
leaving for Tunkwa now, then checking Roche on fri. sounds like I'm trolling around the slab of ice at Roche.
Stump might be finished turning.
I will report Sun.
-
Up at Leighton on the weekend and fishing was good for some and horrible for others........ ;D Majority of the fish were taken on chronies in 3-8 feet of water.
-
Roche is 100% ice free as of Friday afternoon. Bleeker started turning on Friday as did Rose.
Black and Ernst are still Iced and look like they will need another 3-5 days. There was TONS of wind at Roche, so if that was the same over the weekend, they make be close to being Ice free.
Roche should be into FULL turn by the long weekend, so if you are planning on heading up, you may want to call the resort on Thursday/Friday.

Tunkwa was slow, and of course windy.
Most fish were caught in the shalows and were very small.
larger fish in the middle trolling with the wind. but only hooked into 1 or 2 a day.
Leighton was good but we never put the boats in.
hanging worms from shore like we were kids again. anything to get out of the Tunkwa wind.
never made it to Roche, but its ice free.
any reports from Roche

I was there all weekend with 5 other guys.
We Did VERY well with all of us having 30-50 fish Days. Most of the fish were 12-16", but there were also many fish in the 18-24" range caught by us as well.
All fish were caught in 3-5' of water in the shallows. The fish were just crusing in and out from the deeper water into the shallows to feed, and there were times that the sounder was constantly beeping.
Phil Rowley and Brian Chan were there as well, and like them we were all either fishing under an indicator, or casting and doing a VERY slow strip with a Leech on a Floating line.
Fishing was good for many others, but I figure by the look of the lake that it will start it's turn by late week so the weekend might be shot. I would call the resort before heading up for the long weekend.

Stump fished well last saturday.........in the typical way stump is.....fished 6 hours between 2 of us...but one beauty about 6.5 pounds.
we were looking for the kokanee using hardware, as they tend to be big and tasty.
but I am not complainin about the rainbow...I caught it.
-
any word on how the kane valley area is doing? heading up there next weekend for a few days.
-
chicken ranch, upper and lower second are ice free now, I would think Kane is as well, but have not heard. It is supposed to be a scorcher up here Thurs and Fri. Windy Saturday....so lakes should be all ice free soon.
the weather this year has everything 3 weeks to 1 month behind regular schedule.
Today we still had snow in most places in the bush........enough of winter already!
