I have just been informed that a press tour is currently underway at the Spring Bar gravel excavation site on the Fraser River conducted by government officials and others. I believe Global TV is there as well so if interested tune in for this evening news.

Hope Frank and group are there.

Hope Frank and group are there.
They found out after the fact but I was with Frank when he did an interview with Ted Field from Global TV on the crew's returned from Spring Bar.
It was supposed to run on the 6 news tonight but that may now change as Ted was at a breaking story in Langley so the broadcast could be bumped to later.
-
Just phoned Ted and he did get assigned to the late breaking Langley story so he tells me the gravel story will now most likely run early next week.
-
The story ran on the 6 o'clock Global news tonight and should repeat on the late news.
It also can be viewed later on the Global web page news clips.

They've got a pretty good racket going. If things flood, they will come back and say that they didn't take enough. If things don't flood, they'll say I told you so, however, we need to keep taking more to prevent future flooding.
-
Interesting though was the news item before this story said because of Global warming expect less snow in the years ahead. If that is true we will have less run off each Spring so no need to take gravel out.
Anyway as I keep saying you will never take enough gravel out to make a difference, the scientists have said this as well, over and over again. The only ones that say it will make a difference do not have the science to back that statement up.
Just read the power point, the real facts are there.

I watched this last night, and Im surprised they didnt appologize for the leaf fans appearance. From what I heard they have diked off the river flow from the gravel exstraction site, and all gravel being taken is above the current water level. So... it is not interfering with the fish habitat right now, but whats the deal when the water comes up with the spring/ summer run off? ???
-
I kinda wondered if I'd heard that right. ???

I see the Fraser River is tied for second in the Outdoors Recreational Council's annual list of B C's most endangered list. Of course it is partly due to these gravel extraction projects that compromises fish habitat that helps add the Fraser to this list year after year, shameful.
The Upper Pitt to no ones surprise made number 1 because of a proposed power project on this jewel of a river.
When will our governments stop advocating these type of activities on our precious water systems. Carbon emissions need to be controlled but so does this destruction of prime fish habitat and fish bearing streams.
The story is in today's Vancouver Sun and more information is on the ORC web site.

"When will our governments stop advocating these type of activities on our precious water systems. Carbon emissions need to be controlled but so does this destruction of prime fish habitat and fish bearing streams."
I find it amazing that people are still surprised when gov'ts from around the world, not just BC continually make extremely bad decisions as far as screwing up mother natures wonders.
I think the only time they will stop is when all rivers have dams on them and all trees are cut down and all the forests have houses and pavement. Then they will stop.
-
I see the Solicitor General has resigned this evening due some allegations of improper conduct a few years ago. Of course they are only allegations at this time.
I guess now the ad hoc committee may now be dealing with some new Provincial government officials trying to put a stop to this destruction of fish habitat on the Fraser River due to gravel extraction.
Some members of the ad hoc committee met with FOC in Vancouver yesterday and I am not sure how it went.
I keep hoping FOC will put a stop to this gravel mining as many of us feel of course it is more about making money than trying to prevent flooding.

He pulled something off in Chilliwack. Straight up guy until proven guilty. Like the Khmar Rouge. :)
