Well after a bad first season 2007. I finally landed my first steelhead. Out on the river about 8:30 fished the area around Lickman Road for a couple of hours with no luck but say a couple of fish landed.
Drove down the road to the bridge and headed up river to try a couple of pools again no luck.
Drove down to the canal section and had lunch. Figured I may never catch a steelie and thought about giving up fishing forever. Being of stubborn moind went down the the Abbotsford section of the river.
On my 5 th. cast the float went down but came right back up.. I thought maybe a snag. Tried to drift through the same spot close to the bank and WOW :o The float headed down again and the rod started to shake. It was a fish. :D After about 20 minutes I landed a 16 pound - 33 1/2 inch tip to tail male hatchery steelhead.
I live in Deep Cove and I thought my face was going to crack with the wide smile on the 1 1/2 hour drive.
To others in my situation don't give up there is a fish out there for you. ;)

right on dude... 33.5'' 16lb buck though?

Caught him on a pink worm. Fishing about 24" below the float.

He was 33 1/2 inches. Guessing at the weight.
