If you are referring to the Stave then it was probably Fisheries and Oceans staff taking brood stock - either chinook or coho for the hatchery.  Not aware of any netting going on in the Vedder.  Chum limit in the Stave is 2 per day if I do recall.

yes 2 chum on the stave. Also 2 coho over 35cm. It was most likly inch creek hatchery that was netting the toilet bowl as they have been netting for a couple weeks. They are collecting their brood stock for the stave, nicomen slough and norrish.

Many hatcheries depend on volunteers for brood stocking (much like the seymour and the volunteer request posted now).  Anyhow you may have been talking to some volunteers who know nothing about the limits/closures etc.

If you are unsure, everything is available online so its always best to check before you set out on a trip.

I see that you are "originally French" so here are the rules and limits published by Fisheries and Oceans in French for you:  http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish/2007SFGFresh_f.pdf

You should save that for future reference.
