Title: Felt Soles
Post by: armytruck on November 04, 2007, 11:06:59 PM
Anyone know of a good adhesive for gluing new felt soles on the ol wading boots ??? . I bought a kit from the locale tackle shop but the glue they supply was not enough to do the job . I need something that will actually stick  ::).

I just used contact rubber cement, but the better quality stuff. It's the same stuff they give you in the felt replacement kits.  And follow the method used in the kit.  IE:  apply one layer on both surfaces, let dry completely and then add another layer, let dry till tacky and adhere.  Hard part is keeping it all together while it cures.  I used tape and some weights.  Has held up just fine.  Or, get someone to do it for about $20-$25.

Gorilla Glue. Holds forever! Only caution: You'll need a chisel to remove the old ones when it's time for replacement ;)

Gorilla glue will work. I glued the felt soles I bought to my hiking boots and they are never comng off. Will need to use a grinder or a chisel or wait for the soles to wear off.

Another pitch for Gorilla glue, but I have also used a product called "Goop".  Very good stuff, no problems at all.  I wear my wader boots pretty much every day for work and the sole hasn't fallen off yet again since the original manufacturer stuff gave way.

Thanks guys for all your input , there is allot of good ideas out there from you's . I did go with the Gorilla Glue to finish them off . Seems to be doing the trick . I will be testing them out this weekend and see for myself how well it holds  ;D.BTW The kit I picked up from Stevston sold for 16.99 + tax
