hi guys!
i have some Qs related last years topic.
http://www.fishingwithrod.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=12271.0
if i purchase an used boat from US do i need to pay taxes(gst, pst, duty etc)????
-
GST+PST on the boat
PST on the trailer
-
not sure on taxes
but if the boat is made in Canada there will be duty.
-
I bought a smokercraft outside of seattle. GST+PST on the boat. No duties for boats made in Canada/USA/Mexico under NAFTA. Don't know about the trailer though as I only bought the hull and had my own trailer. Customs agent seemed to suggest that it was more trouble as it needs to be inspected.
-
PST + GST on the boat paid at the border. There is PST on the trailer payable when you insure the trailer. The trailer needs to be inspected if it is newer than 1979 (not positive on the date but it has to be fairly old to be exempt). I bought a boat and trailer in Washington last year. My trailer was old so didn't need inspection. There is no duty on the boat or trailer if they are made in North America (likely).

And the K numbers are different now and are not done at the border. The boat must be registered though a federal gov office (not the boders) if it is over 9.9 hp.

thanks guys.
the seller says... the boat has clear title on its trailer but not on the boat.
do i need paperworks for the boat?
the boat is 16' alum, has 50hp motor.
