Title: Run of the river power.
Post by: Geff_t on October 10, 2007, 10:07:28 AM
This was a very interesting article in our local paper about the run of the river power generators they want to put on the tributaries of the upper Pitt river. Is nothing sacred to this government anymore.

I totally agree, Fly Guy. This is very important that everybody is aware of what they are doing to our environment and resources. But I believe we should take a further step and do something. As the sportfishing community of the lower mainland, maybe we need to build a website and ask the environment scientists or ecologist to make arguments on this. This government should understand that there's a price for whatever decision they take for our resources and they are responsible to pay that price!

I think if people can increase the indirect cost of these so called 'GREEN' developments, the contractors will be less interested in this type of projects. So, one day my kid will be able to enjoy fishing in that area too.

In the end power has to come from somewhere, generated by burning natural gas, coal, hydro dams or even nuclear power, conservation won't do it.

People want more and more and more electrical gadgets they think are essential and they have the money to pay for them, plus there are more and more and more people who want to live here-are you going to tell them they can't live here?

So-whaddaya gonna do?

The present systems that people live under are unsustainable and northing will change until natural disasters start to kill large percentages of the population, this has started in some places but people in richer countries-like Canada-think they can buy their way out of any problems.

Rich people in countries beset by environmental problems can up and move to countries like Canada the poor are-as always-buggered.
