Took the dog for a walk/swim this afternoon to the mouth of the Coquitlam river. Saw two people fishing, neither was catching anything. Saw a few jumping but they jumping beyond casting distance. The last couple of years i've noticed that most of the fish are on the surrey side of on the river and that a boat will result in more hookups

They do like the south side of the river.
Probably just too many channels and obstructions down on the lower on the north side?

Hi Sandhead and 1st Lite
SOTDevil ! I was just wondering which side would be better , for a 1st timer to try out the New West spot , which I imagine would be similiar ( ie narrowing channel ) I also have a superliteweight Canoe on my truck , at the moment.
Does anybody know of a reasonably sandy launch spot to launch a canoe down there, with not too far of a cranial Portage , from truck to launch? From reading recent posts , It kinda sounds like everybody is familiar with this area, and Brownsville (Richmond?)
Depending on the tide , would trolling or pitching, be fun ? Also, any shore spots that working a fly from shore, may be productive ? Thanks !
I have room for a bow paddler , but am on afternoon shift , the moment, so we'd probably be fishing aroung the pm major , or a minor too-maybe just stay up and fish the first lite...depending on how the body and sleep quotient phases come together...
Cheers - Hope to hear from you ! thanks ! Brian

I'm not sure how safe it would be to go out there in a canoe. lots of boat traffic and log booms in that area. Maybe someone with more experience will chip in. I also think you would do a lot better to the south east
-
Thanks Sandhead-
I think I'll be leaving that idea at home, and try some areas from shore. Any reasonable access points that you know of , SouthEast ?- I am coming from North Van.
It sounds like folks have been doing more consistantly , in Langley and Chilliwack area , but I think that you must know the spots. I've been looking for a Fraser Bar book , that Nicole reccomended-couldn't get it at the library. I may have to break down and buy it-I just hate coming home from fishing with LESS than I started with-gear and catch included !
Thanks Brian

yofishon you can buy a map that has most of the fraser river bars shown w/approx depths marked, and its printed on some type of rip resistant and waterproof paper, it's a good place to start and be cautious on the mighty fraser.you can find them at most tackle stores. bonne chance mon ami.
anywhere else that you can find these maps?

I picked up my map at Army and Navy

Would you like me to photocopy the one that I have? I photocopied it a few months ago.
You'd have to come and get it though, I am downtown in Vancouver...
Cheers,
Nicole

Sandhead that was me you saw fishing the mouth of the coquitlam on Tuesday. Lots of fish were around but you are right they were just outside of casting distance. Later in the afternoon they moved closer to shore and I had three hookups and landed two of them.

I tried to find it at the library as well with no luck. I also saw that the new addition of Fishing fever is out and should be available at your local tackle shop. This book tells you where every bar from Mission to Hope is at. Even giving you gps coordinates. I have the old one and it was awesome. The direction are perfect and with the GPS co-ordinates you can use google earth to get a picture of the bar to give you an idea if you want to try the bar or not.
If yours does not carry it I know that Randy at Hatch Matchers fly and tackle in Maple Ridge has them.
