Title: how's the north/west van coho this year
Post by: allwaysfishin on August 17, 2007, 12:01:15 AM
so , last years capilano/seymour coho fishery was a total bust for most folks. I'm talking salt water , not river fishing. I've been away in nootka poundin on big coho and springs ... it's a tough job i tell ya  ;D , so i've been a bit out of touch with local happenings. Do any of you see a repeat of last year or might we see a decent fishery this year. Any thoughts? Not specifically looking for reports, just wondering if it looks like last year will repeat itself.

Better than last year due mainly to the influx of pinks into local waters.

Hit ambleside beach the last couple days before work to take a few casts, thursday I counted 16 boats trolling around but didnt see much action. Today there were fewer boats but a guy fishing out of a kayak hooked and landed a salmon of some sort.

Probably because of extra water able to flow down the Cap this year.  More water = passable conditions instead of the minute trickle it usually has in our hot summers.

Heard of a good number of cohos out there just waiting for the river to rise and fall to arrive. which is just around the corner as I see some leaves are starting to turn their colours. From my sources(and good ones too!) it;s all pointing to a good year for cohos in general. Look at the skeena and it's bumper crop this year .Hope it all happens down south here too. We're way over due for a good fall salmon season!
