there are lots of spots to fish along the coast of West Van
anywhere from under the Lions Gate bride to Light House Park
find a beach with access and give it a go at low tide 8)
first light and early morning are best
small lead, 6' leader and home made spinners
slow retreive ;)

Actually, Lighthouse park is no fishing now.
Caught twomore this morning - same time same place. Although, I think one of them was a spring. It had a black mouth, and lots of spots on the tail. Didn't register until I filleted it at home, and noticed the meat was a pailer color. I have sent 4 pictures to Master Rodney to post. The fish I think is the spring is the one of the top of the cutting board. (sorry, no head).

Not trying to be a jerk but you really need to know your species if your fishing for salmon. Chinooks need to be over 66(maybe 63)cm thats about 6lbs. Wouldnt wanna get caught with an undersized spring

I agree.
Pick-up a tidal regs. and look at the pics. and keep it with you until your sure of what you are catching and specially if your keeping them.
Sometimes they are hard to tell the difference. ;)

mmhmmm....I am actually fairly good a spotting salmon species having worked in the hatchery for 2 years. This was a combination of 6am / ill prepared bait caster / and being convinced there was only coho around. Bad me, I know.

Thanks for sharing your catches with us, Aquaboy24. You sure had some success there at the Cap mouth. The natives must have damed the river now for fish to build up.

Don't worry about those mental lapses in fish identification. It happens at times to seasoned rods. Many years back, I saw an experienced rod bonk a wild steelie by accident right in plain sight of us, because some one watching the landing told him it was a hatch and he didn't double check. He felt so bad about it. I didn't actually bonk the wrong fish, but I let a chrome as hell white spring go thinking that it was a wild 16 lb coho. Only when it was swimming away that I notice the black spots around the dorsal fins. I wouldn't mind keeping a chromer spring like that, LOL.  ;D  Never made the same mistake again.  ;)

Ivan
guess you couldnt call me local now as i moved to Coquitlam
However most guys down there know me
and they all have there own style of spinner that they make
you can buy a spinner maker or just use pliers to twist the wire
pretty simple once you get the hang of it

start with a loop at one end(some bought wires come with a loop at one end) with split ring and swivel
then slide blade holder with blade(try different sizes) up the wire
then a few beads(red\orange\green)
then make another loop
add a split ring to this loop and fit hook
hope this helps
i can post a pic if you need more help

JK Gone fishin
even though there are not many jumpers dosent mean they are not there
it can mean that they are feeding
most jumping fish arn't feeding
so keep casting to where you think they should be
and wind slow but keep off the bottom ;)

Back at my spot this morning. Hooked into 4 fish...one nice 5 lb coho came to shore....3 lost right at foot. Again - no one down there (of the 25 guys yesterday, and the 5 today are using spinners) everyone is using buzz bombs and zingers and they are WORKING like crazy.

One interesting note - grey day today...and the reason I was losing my fish was that they were barely hooked - the one I got to shore had it just inside the tip of the lip....yesterday they were all deep down in the throat....so..do fish strike different;y in different light? They didn't seem to be slammin them like they were the previous two days. I can't believe I lost 3 fish! ARRRG.

On another note, I brought my Dad down, and he got his first salmon ever - a nice, 2 lb coho. I congradulated him on catching his first half a fish. Then I landed the 5lb'er :)

There was a neglible amount of rain today....so my vote is nope.
I was fishiing off Dunderave. Beautiful if a little cold. Fish coming in major waves...it seemed I would have a hook up every 30 minutes or so (just about the time a began getting frustrated). At one point the guy beside me hooked into 5 straight - all wild. In the middle of them all, I caught a hatch fish, and he asked "how did you pick that one out" - lol.
Told him it was my special custom zinger pattern.
