Checked out the limits hole below the hatchery only to observe an angler on the far side of the river playing a chinook. By the way the fish was fighting I knew it must be foul hooked. Three other anglers were watching the fight and when the fish was pulled to the beach it was foul hooked in the dorsal fin. The angler then proceeded to kill the fish , the three other anglers did not say a word to the angler and proceeded down river to fish. I returned to the hatchery and one of the employees phoned DFO who said they would send someone up to investigate. They called the hatchery today and informed us that they had charged the individual with failing to punch his card. They could not charge him with killing a foul hooked fish as they could not find any hook wounds.
C&P responded immediately and should be congratulated for trekking down to the back side of the limits hole late in the day. One of the more positive outcomes.

I believe the c.o has to personally witness the crime being committed other than that it would be hear say evidence, unless the c.o has reasonable and probable grounds that supports the claim of a offence being committed.

Way to go buck! I wish all the hatchery staff had the ability to write tickets...
There's been a few times I wanted to phone the chehalis hatchery about foul hooked coho being bonked...
At least the watch person is right there...

Good job buck, the beginning of a crackdown this year on the Chilliwack Vedder, as they start to deal with the snagging.

Yes i saw them today too by the railway crossing two of them! real friendly too, but spealing of the chinook where the hell are they! the run must be nearly exctinct the last time i saw or heard of someone catch one was 2 years ago im suprised the river is still open for them. I can honestly say I think that its easier to catch a steelhead in january on the vedder than a red chinook in july.

I was told there is around 200 in the hatchery. ;D

I managed one fish in 2 full days. I did see the DFO which was really good to see. I also saw a sockeye get bonked >:( The others around him didn't see it was a sockeye when he landed and bonked it but when he walked back to them they gave him heck. If that wasn't bad enough he said "I hate to waste a fish" and threw it back in the river >:( :o :-\
Other than that it was good to be on the river.

Even looked fishable in the lower today but that could change at ant time as the clay slides are very unstable.

Sad to hear about those sockeye. It was only a matter of time...All those yahoos at limit deserve a find! >:(
