Title: Bus Burns On The Trans Canada
Post by: chris gadsden on July 21, 2007, 10:48:15 PM
While coming down Highway 1 with 2 nice chinooks aboard from a 3 day fishing trip I heard there was a bus on fire just West of Hope. I did not think much of it at the time. I decided first to see what was happening at the Scale Bar. ???

I was on the other side of the river and saw 50 people working the area. :o I saw one chap with a fish on, I grabbed the video camera and filmed the action and just as he was getting the chinook near the shore the fellow falls over backwards, on his backside. ;D ;D

The fish had gained its freedom and the fellow a sore bottom. ;D Maybe I will send it to Amercia's funniest video's.

I then headed to the scene of the bus fire and on arrival I see it was worth filming, as I freelance for Global TV. With the story in the can I phone the newsroom and they had heard about the fire and wanted it, I rush home, check the film that looked ok and had time to kiss my wife hello and goodbye and off to Global in Burnaby.

The traffic was bad as I keep looking at my watch, need 30 minutes to edit the tape for the 6 news, now grid lock on the Port Mann, what else is new. I have just come from a peaceful fishing trip and now I am in a completely different environment. From a fishing rod in hand to a freelancers camera, with the latter being pressure.

I make the news room at 5:20, we rush to the edit room, they are happy with the footage, I sign a form that I will not take it to another station and the freelance fee at the top pays for more than I spent on the trip. ;D They send it to CH news in Victoria as well as the team is a Jr. football team from Victoria. I guess it will run at 11 tonight also.

With the story filed I treat myself to supper in White Rock as I decide I might as well get some bugs for next week's fishing trip. ;D

The end of a perfect week, 2 chinooks, a freelance TV story and 50 bugs for next weeks fishing. Retirement is good. ;D ;D ;D

Rodney has pictures of bus and the people fishing the scale bar if he wishes to post them later..

I saw the footage on the 11 o'clock Global News. So that is the infamous Scale Bar.

Does anybody know what bus company it was? Because a couple weeks ago while on a bus trip to Calgary with our lacrosse team we had 2 wheels fall off our bus. So I was wondering if it was the same company. :-\

Good pictures, you should have sent them to the Vancouver Province as they are better than the one they published of mine today. The freelance fee is nice too. ;D ;D ;D

That would be too cruel!
