Title: How many...
Post by: 2:40 on July 06, 2007, 11:39:18 AM
...anglers does it take to discuss the 'snagging' issue?

This was originally a joke (very amusing and very true) about how many forum members it would take to change a light bulb. I made a few changes and thought you'd all enjoy.  :D

- 1 to start a topic asking what’s the difference between snagging and bottom bouncing on the Fraser.
- 14 to share similar experiences and comments towards the question and clarify the difference
- 7 to caution about the dangers of pushing ethics and ideals on others
- 1 to move it to the Announcements section from Fishing Reports
- 2 to argue then move it to the General Discussion section
- 7 to point out offensive or risqué comments in the posts about snagging
- 5 to flame the 7
- 3 to correct spelling/grammar flames
- 6 to argue over whether it's "Snagging" or "Flossing" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as misguided and who should be focusing on nets and fish farms
- 2 “law professionals” to inform the group that the proper term is neither as it isn’t defined in the regulations as such
- 15 who claim they’ve fished for 40 years, and that “snagging” is exactly what it is.
- 15 who claim they’ve fished for 40 years and that no one can tell them how to harvest their fish if it’s lawful.
- 8 to ask "what is fishing" as where they come from, spears and pitchforks are how they fish
- 6 to say that fishing methods from across the planet are illrelevant
- 19 to post that this forum is not only about fishing ethics and to please take this discussion elsewhere
- 11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all fish and therefore these posts are relevant to this forum
- 36 to debate which method of fishing is right, where it is ok and where it isn’t, what level of ethics are ok, what levels makes one holier than thou and what it means to sport angling.
- 7 to post URL's where one can see various examples of the issue
- 4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's
- 3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes fishing ethics relevant to this group
- 13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "I agree” or “I don’t agree”
- 5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the flossing controversy year after year
- 4 to say "didn't we go through this already last year?"
- 13 to say "search the forum first about flossing before posting questions about it"
- 1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

;D I was never good at crosswords or the Wheel Of Fortune (even with pictural aids) so was a little slow on the take.  :-[

Nice coffee grinders!

And for the record, I was poking fun at the annual argument in general and not taking a side (ie making fun of others)
